This program would like to show a little panorama of Italian music filtered through two different kind of chamber music formations with guitar.

The violin-guitar duo found one of the higher
form of expression in Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840), who was both a guitar and a
violin virtuoso. His “Sonata Concertata” presents a wonderful balance between
guitar and violin, exploring all the expressive potential of the instruments.

With Duo De Angelis - Federici, we tried to
present a little (and incomplete) summary of Italian music history: starting
with the baroque we find Arcangelo Corelli's (1653-1713) Concerto Grosso,
moving to the 19th century we find Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868), whose
overtures were also transcribed by Mauro Giuliani. The 20th century is the time
when the guitar duo raised the attention of many composer, wonderful examples
are the "24 préludes et fugues pour deux guitares” op. 199 by Mario
Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) and the “Spanish Suite” by Mario Gangi
(1923-2010).
