A committee from Singapore visited Metropolia on October 26th. Minister of State for Education Lawrence Wong lead the delegation of 13 people, which included ministry officials, industry chiefs, university and polytechnic heads and media representatives.
The committee visited higher education institutions and the Ministry of Education and Culture in order to look at higher education models in Europe. In addition to Metropolia, the committee also visited Aalto University and the University of Helsinki.
At Metropolia, the Singaporeans were especially interested in hearing about the Finnish divided higher education sector and learning about differences between traditional universities and universities of applied sciences. Metropolia’s goals towards better work well-being, staff training, and improving the quality of education were also interesting topics for the visitors.
Metropolia’s management and the committee also discussed cooperation that already exists between Singaporean higher education institutions a
nd Metropolia. Both parties encouraged each other to find out more opportunities for developing international partnerships.
