Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences will begin on 29 May 2013 an information and consultation process concerning the entire staff on production-related and financial grounds and owing to a reorganisation of Metropolia.
The target of the process is to improve Metropolia's efficiency, performance and competitiveness in the future and to come up with proposals for measures that ensure continued success of operations.
This process may result in no more than 100 employees having their status changed to part-time employment, being laid off or having their employment contracts terminated between 2013 and 2014.
"We value the expertise and commitment of our staff and have faith in them wishing to improve our operations even under these circumstances," says President Riitta Konkola.
The reasons for Metropolia to initiate this process lie in reduced state funding to universities of applied sciences and the new financing system based on the performance of universities of applied sciences, making it necessary to reassess both operations and the organisation. Another factor is the application of educational responsibilities this autumn which may in part deviate from what is currently offered.
Streamlining Metropolia's operations affects the entire organisation, including the management. The management's information and consultation process ended in May, with the new Management Group beginning work on 1 June 2013. It's job is to take changes forward. The new Management Group consists of:
