IMPROVISE TO IMPROVE (IM&IM) - Improvising as Means of Improving Music Pedagogy takes place on the 19th to 23rd of August 2014 in Ruoholahti Conservatorio building organized by the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Music department. Similar to the first IP in Helsinki, January 2013, the second intensive course is again organized by the Helsinki Metropolia UAS and funded by the Nordplus Higher Education programme. The participants will include 32 students and 17 professors from with the same participating institutes.

The topic, Improvising as Means of Improving Music Pedagogy, draws on the basic assumption that learning different ways of improvisation serve as part of the crucial steps in facilitating musical growth and musical excellence. Our goal during this intensive course is to share experiences and methods we have used while promoting improvisation in our institutes. The challenge is how to share this learning and how to improve, if possible, our music pedagogy through learning improvisation.
