As a highlight of the three day study trip the group went for a visit to the European Parliament, hosted by MEP, Ms Lieve Wierinck. The themes for the study trip were lobbying and public affairs in practice in the EU.
During the visit, the participants met Public Affairs professionals from Business Europe, Grayling and Bayer. The trip also included lectures and a workshop at the Maastricht campus of Metropolia’s partner school ZUYD, Faculty of International Business and Communication.
The study trip from 6th to 8th December was a part of Business Development Master’s students’ curricula. Altogether 15 students participated in the trip together with Development Manager, Ms. Minna Kaihovirta-Rapo. The trip was organized in co-operation with ZUYD. The field trip concept has been created by Senior lecturer, Mr Rick Maijer. This was a second jointly organized trip. Mr Maijer was accompanied by lecturer, Ms. Isabel Férreira de Sousa and 14 students from ZUYD.
“We are extremely pleased by the way we managed to combine relevant topical content with networking opportunities during the trip. The students from both universities benefited from the experience” said Mr. Maijer and Ms. Kaihovirta-Rapo in unison.
“This study trip gave a deeper understanding on how the decision making and influencing dynamics work on EU-level. No matter what industry you come from, everyone would benefit from knowing more about these topics” elaborates Sampsa Luomaniemi, one of the Finnish Master’s student to participate the trip.
“An intensive study trip abroad suits extremely well for Master’s students, who work full time and study in the evenings. It was great to be able to focus on the topics and the people intensively for a couple of days” sums Finnish Master’s student Silja Saviranta, who participated the trip.
