Transfer Applications
A transfer student is a student whose study entitlement is transferred upon application from another Finnish Polytechnic / University of Applied Sciences (UAS) to Metropolia or within Metropolia from one degree programme or specialisation option to another.
Application periods:
- 15 October - 15 November (for studies starting in spring)
- 15 April - 15 May (for studies starting in autumn)
Application forms will be available here during the application periods. It is not possible to apply outside the application periods.
The study right cannot be transferred during the same academic term (autumn term or spring term) when the student accepted the study place in question. The student may transfer at the beginning of the next term following the decision at the earliest.
However, please note that getting admitted to Metropolia via transfer application process is difficult as the degree programmes are normally full and there are no free study places left. Therefore, students are strongly advised to apply via the normal application procedure.
Eligibility
A transfer student is a student whose study entitlement is transferred upon application from another Finnish Polytechnic / University of Applied Sciences (UAS) to Metropolia or within Metropolia from one degree programme or specialisation option to another. It is not possible to transfer from abroad.
When transferring from another Finnish polytechnic/UAS:
- the field of study must remain the same (e.g. Technology)
- the degree/degree title must remain the same (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering)
- the degree programme must remain the same or corresponding (e.g. Electronics)
When transferring within Metropolia from one degree programme to another:
- the field of study must remain the same (e.g. Technology)
- the degree must remain the same (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering)
When transferring within Metropolia from one specialisation to another:
- the field of study must remain the same (e.g. Technology)
- the degree/degree title must remain the same (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering)
- the degree programme must remain the same or corresponding (e.g. Electronics)
All other transfers must be applied for through the normal application and admission procedure.
A transfer student can be admitted provided that:
- the student has a valid study entitlement in a Finnish polytechnic/UAS; and
- there is a study place available in the degree programme; and
- a personal study plan can be prepared so as to accommodate the completion of studies within the allocated study period; and
- the applicant attends an interview arranged by the degree programme and/or possible tests if required.
There are no specific requirements on how many credits an applicants should have completed. However, the degree programmes will put applicants in a ranking order based on their school performance (number of completed credits, grades, grade point average etc.).
Please note that students do not have any subjective right to transfer and fulfilling the eligibility requirements does not necessarily mean that the transfer application would be accepted.
Application
The application form will be available here during the application periods only.
The transfer must be well-founded and may always be granted or rejected at Metropolia's discretion.
Application must contain the following attachments:
- official study certificate (attendance history)
- official study transcript (completed study units)
- official statements from the teachers regarding completed courses missing from the transcript
- free-form application (give your reasons for applying for transfer)
The application (including all the required attachments) must be received by the Admissions Office by the end of the application period. Late applications will not be considered. Possible delays in postal delivery or problems in getting the required certificates in time do not take away the sender's responsibility of delivering all the required documents by the deadline.
Please remember to keep your contact information always up to date and to check your e-mail frequently in case the Admissions Office needs to contact you.
Student selection
The transfer application may always be granted or rejected at Metropolia's discretion. Please note that students do not have any subjective right to transfer and fulfilling the eligibility requirements does not necessarily mean that the transfer application would be accepted.
The transfer application decisions will be made by:
- 30 June for studies starting in the autumn term
- 15 December for studies starting in the spring term
The decision on the admission of a transfer student remains conditional until the student has submitted a resignation certificate from the previous university of applied sciences.
The transfer decision may be appealed to the Helsinki Administrative Court within thirty (30) days of the receipt of the decision. However applicants are strongly recommended to contact the Admissions Office before starting the appeal process.
