Bachelor's Degree, daytime studies

The Finnish professionally oriented higher education institutes either use the translation "Polytechnic" or "University of Applied Sciences" when referring to themselves. We use the abbreviation UAS for University of Applied Sciences.

There are no tuition fees in the degree studies since higher education degrees are funded by the state through the Ministry of Education.

Application period: 3 January - 15 February 2011

Application to Metropolia's Bachelor’s Degree Programmes conducted in English as daytime studies takes place through a nationwide online joint application system. The application period begins on 3 January and ends on 15 February 2011 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. Applying is possible only once in a year.

Application Process

In order to apply successfully, it is crucial to read and follow the application instructions carefully. Further instructions can be found under the links (in orange) in the list below and in the menu bar (right side of the page).

1. Check the education offering

The nationwide education offering can be found at www.admissions.fi (Degree Programmes).

2. Choose 1-4 degree programmes and decide an order of preference

You can apply up to four different degree programmes at polytechnics/UAS using the same online application (only one application per applicant). You must define an order of preference for the degree programmes you have chosen. Please note that the order of preference is binding (cannot be changed) after the application period has ended and it will define the degree programme where you will be admitted (you will be offered only one study place, which will be the highest option possible).

3. Make sure that you are eligible to apply

Different polytechnics/UASs may have different admission criteria and eligibility requirements. Before applying to Metropolia, please check how the national Recommendation on Student Admission Criteria is applied in Metropolia's admission criteria and make sure that you fulfill Metropolia’s eligibility requirements. Metropolia does not use discretionary admission, which means that applicants must fulfill all the eligibility requirements in order to get invited to the entrance examination.

4. Submit your application

The online application can be found at www.admissions.fi (Apply) during the application period 3 January - 15 February 2011 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. Have your certificates with you when you fill in your application. The online application datebase helps and guides you to fill in the application correctly so please follow the instructions carefully.

5. Submit the required certificates

Submit the required certificates to the Admissions Office of your first option polytechnic/UAS by the deadline. Metropolia's Admissions Office's contact information can be found here. Please note that the required certificates must arrive to the Admissions Office by the end of the application period and they will not be returned to the applicants. Possible delays in postal delivery or problems in getting the required certificates in time do not take away applicant's responsibility of delivering all the required documents by the deadline.

6. Check your e-mail frequently while waiting for the eligibility decision

Eligibility decisions and entrance examination invitations will be posted approximately at the end of March 2011. Please remember to keep your postal address up to date as the decisions/invitations will be sent to you by post and check your e-mail frequently while waiting for the eligibility decision in case the Admissions Office needs to contact you in questions relating your application.

7. Participate in the entrance examination

Some of the degree programmes may have pre-reading material for the entrance examination. Please find the entrance examination dates and more detailed instructions in chapter Entrance Examination.

8. Wait patiently for the student selection results

Student selection results will be posted to the applicants approximately in mid-June (by 19 July 2011 at the latest). Please remember to keep your postal address up to date as the decision will be sent to you by post.

9. Submit the acceptance of study place form by 2 August 2011

If you get admitted, submit the acceptance of a study place form to the Admissions Office by 2 August 2011 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. The study place will be cancelled if the acceptance of study place form (certificate copies if required) is not received by the Admissions Office by the deadline. Please note that the study place will be conditional until the original certificates have been checked.

10. Submit your original certificates by 2 September 2011

If you start your studies in autumn 2011 submit your original certificates by 2 September 2011. The study place will be cancelled if the original certificates are not submitted by the deadline or if applicants have given false information about themselves.
