Studying in the Master's Degree Programme in Business Informatics will deepen your business skills as well as strategic and managerial expertise through improved understanding of information management, business intelligence systems and ICT platforms. While getting familiar with different business models and operations you will also learn how to interpret data to craft the answers to business critical questions. The Master's degree programme in Business Informatics consists of:
- Advanced professional studies, 25 ECTS
- Business Strategy and Management, 15 ECTS
- Business Analysis and Development, 10 ECTS from a set of choices
- Elective studies, 5 ECTS
- Master’s Thesis, 30 ECTS
You will plan and implement a development project in real business life, typically for your own place of work. In doing so, your research, project management and change leadership skills will be enhanced. Networking, team and negotiation skills will be improved in the multi-cultural, tied-to-business setting in which this Master’s DP is carried out. You will report your RDI development project as a Master’s Thesis combining your development work with academic research (30 ECTS).

The Master's Degree Programme in Business Informatics is organized so that you can combine studying with full-time work. The length of your studies is determined by the entry line through which you get accepted. For the Master in Engineering it is 1,5 years.
Enjoy Multi-Disciplinary Approach and Contact Sessions
Studying in our Degree Programme takes place in intensive contact sessions that are mainly arranged every other Friday. However, evening classes or an intensive weekend session or a study trip may be arranged. An additional feature of learning in the Master’s degree programme in Business Informatics comes from its multi-disciplinary approach: many courses include students studying for the Master’s degree in Engineering as well as for the Master’s degree in Business Administration. A lot is expected from you but a lot is also given by the professionals in business and academic world lecturing and leading the sessions.
Elena Xydaki, Master of Engineering in Business Informatics
I am Elena Xydaki from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. I have been working as an entrepreneur in Finland for more than 10 years. My main business line is exporting graphic art materials to Russia.
Graphic Art industry is shrinking due to digital media presence. I understood that this was the moment for me to react, to start something new and different. I chose Business Informatics Master's Degree Programme as it offers knowledge at the cutting edge of technology development.
Studying was a brilliant experience: all courses were practice-oriented and the atmosphere was very collaborative both from teachers' and students' sides. The studies offered a great network as all the students were already experienced professionals. The most highlighted moments for me were a trip to Berlin as a part of Innovation and Renewal -course as well as Business Economics lectures of lecturer Antti Hovi.
I was lucky to get a chance to write my thesis for one of the most interesting startups in Finland - Jolla Ltd. The title of my thesis is Usability Study for Sailfish Operation System. At that time Jolla's first smartphone powered by Sailfish operating system was released. I was accepted to conduct ten face-to-face interviews and usability testing including video recording and talk aloud protocol for two groups of participants: device owners and potential buyers. Meeting users, having discussions about their experience and following their logic during the task performance let me see the market reaction on a totally new product and develop my marketing skills further.
