Specialisation studies in Industrial Management focus on service business management and ICT. The program is conducted in English and the studies can be carried out along with regular work. Working days in the autumn are Thursdays and Fridays (full days).
The curriculum is interwoven of three dimensions. Management of services is emphasized over science and engineering. This is the functional dimension. Participants are expected to have work experience, and may be attending this class while in parallel with day job. The sector dimension draws out intuitions on leading and operating in a service business, and business cases are discussed. Services over a variety of sectors are discussed, to illustrate wisdoms that may be adopted or challenged in other sectors. Open boarders for shipping and travel have made international business a part of everyday business in the 21st century. Therefore the cultural anthropological dimension is included to bridge the challenge of globalization and the local culture.
The program content is a mix of three threads. The first, conceptual thread brings insights through readings, articles and theories introduced in the lectures. The second, interpretive thread aims to make sense of the knowledge through the experiences of guest lecturers, service practitioners and peer experience. The third, experiential thread links the gained understandings in discussions. The learning is synthesized into the Master's Thesis, where the participant solves a research problem in a practical research project for the case company. Faculty includes advanced researchers with practical experience and PhD degrees.
