The Joint Application System
The application period for studies starting in autumn 2010 is from 11 January 2010 to 12 February 2010 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time (+ 2 hrs GMT). Metropolia has only one admission per year. The application period is always in the spring and the studies will always start in the autumn.
Application to Finnish Bachelor’s Degree Programmes conducted in English (daytime studies) at Polytechnics/UASs takes place through a nationwide online joint application system at www.admissions.fi. Applicants can fill in only one application per application period but they can apply for up to four (4) different degree programmes by using the same form.
When applying applicants must define an order of preference for the degree programmes (binding after the application period has ended). More information regardin the order of preference can be found under the subheading "Student Selections".
Application Process Step by Step
- Check the nationwide education offering at www.admissions.fi => Degree Programmes.
- Choose 1-4 degree programmes to which you want to apply. Please note that applicants can fill in only one application per application period!
- Decide your order of preference for the degree programmes. Please note that the preference option order defines the degree programme where the applicant will be admitted and therefore, it is absolutely crucial this order reflects your true wishes!
- Check the eligibility requirements. Please note that the requirements/instructions may vary between the degree programmes.
- Have all the required certificates with you when you fill in your application because the joint application system will ask you to give information regarding your educational background.
- Fill in and send the online application at www.admissions.fi by 12 February 2010 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. The application service guides and helps you to fill in the application form. Make sure that all the information you have given is true and correct before sending the application. Wrong or false information may cause major problems in the application process!
- Print a copy of the application form for yourself for future reference and memorize your application number as you will need it in order to identify yourself during the application process.
- Take copies of all the required certificate copies (plain photocopies are enough except with TOEFL) and write your applicant number on each certificate copy. Deliver all the required certificate copies to the Admissions Office of the polytechnic/UAS of your first choice so that they are received by 19 February 2010 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. Late certificate copies will not be accepted. Please note that certificate copies will not be returned to applicants. Never send any original documents (certificates or their translations)!
- Keep your contact information always up to date, because otherwise the Admissions Office will not be able to reach you, which in the worst case may result in your application being rejected. Check your e-mail frequently in case the Admissions Office should need to contact you.
- If you want to change your application data, e-mail the Admissions Office of your first-choice polytechnic/UAS. The order of preference chosen in the application is binding and cannot be altered after the application deadline. Please remember to inform your applicant number when contacting the Admissions Office.
- All applicants who have who have proved their eligibility as required (delivered all the required certificate copies by the deadline) will be invited to the entrance examination(s). Wait patiently for the entrance examination invitation / eligibility decision, which will be posted to you in mid March.
- Wait patiently for the student selection results, which will be posted to the applicants approximately at the beginning of June 2010.
- If you are offered a study place you must fill in and deliver an acceptance of a study place form (sent attached to the admission letter at the beginning of June) so that it is received by the Admissions Office by 3 August 2010 at 4.15 pm Finnish time.
