Lending Services

ihmisiaThe instructions and regulations mentioned on these pages are valid in the Metropolia library units. The partner libraries follow their own regulations.

Library rules and overdue charges

Library card

You need a library card to borrow material. You can get a card at the Metropolia libraries and the partner libraries simply by showing your ID. When your receive a library card, you undertake to follow the library regulations. Your library card is personal, and you are responsible for any material borrowed with your card. If you loose your card, you must notify the library without delay. You should also keep your address information up-to-date via our customer support system, by sending on e-mail (library(at)metropolia.fi), or by visiting the library.

Borrowing and renewing

You can borrow material from any of the Metropolia library units. Material that is on the shelf can be ordered from one Metropolia library unit to another (not from the partner libraries). The staff is always ready to help you find the material you are looking for and to show you how to use the self-service machines. You can renew your loans online at the MetCat database for up to ten times, unless someone has made a reservation for the material. Students can have a maximum of 50 books checked out at any time, the staff 100 and external customers 30.

Returning

The lending periods vary depending on the collection and the library unit. Material must be renewed or returned on the due date at the latest either directly to the library or, if the library is closed, into a return box. All loans can be returned to any of the Metropolia library units, but not to the partner libraries.

Reservations

Material that is checked out can be reserved online at metcat.amkit.fi. Material that is on the shelf can be reserved by contacting the library, sending an email: library (at) metropolia.fi, or via the customer support system.

Notifications

Notifications for overdue loans are sent to the customer primarily by email. The customer himself is always responsible for returning material in time, even if the notifications fail to reach the customer.

Fines for late return of material and suspension of borrowing priviledges

The overdue charge system has changed March 15th, 2010.
