Information Technology
- Degree Bachelor of Engineering (insinööri AMK)
- Duration 4 years, extent 240 ECTS
- Study Places 40
- Campus Vanha maantie 6, Espoo, Leppävaara
- Previous Application period: 9 January 2012 - 14 February 2012
The programme provides you with high quality instruction and skills in three different specialisation options. The degree gives you a solid basis to work as an engineer anywhere in the world and have an international career in various areas of information and communications technologies.
Professional studies include modules in computer engineering, telecommunications, software engineering, and embedded systems. You also have a great opportunity to gain practical experience as Metropolia has substantial educational and research activities in mobile communication networks, computer-based measurement systems, real-time systems and in a network-based project learning.
You will be linked to working-life throughout their studies via industry –related projects, industrial placement periods and a Final Year Project. This gives you a chance to create useful networks and plan future career whilst studying.
Fields of Spesialisation
Communications and Data Networks
The main study and education areas in the this major option are related to different telecommunication technologies. Telecommunication's laboratory covers Internet technology and mobile communications widely. For Internet activities, the laboratory has independent study and simulation network containing all essential working components such as routers, hubs and switches. This network allows network installation, configuration and management actions that could not be carried out in an operational network. The laboratory for the mobile communications provides extensive set of computer aided environments for education and evaluation of cellular network operation.
Embedded Engineering
Embedded engineering provides tools to interface real world events with virtual, computerised world. The objective of this specialisation option is to provide a solid understanding on how electronic devices operate. Successful student will learn the electronics fundamentals, low-level programming of microcontrollers, and how the hardware interacts with high-level user interfaces. Typically embedded engineering students will be working in product development teams.
Software Engineering
True software professionals are in great demand in the ICT industry. To become a good software professional, you have to master quite many interesting areas of computer engineering such as basic principles of computer hardware and telecommunications. Software development itself is a very versatile and captivating process and it consists of many phases such as systems and requirement analysis, design of the computer system, design of the architecture of the software, programming, testing, commissioning and maintenance. The programming skills are very important for a software engineer. Sometimes programming is called "coding". In our Information Technology programme it is much more than just coding. Programming is modelling of problem solving or task performing. It is the software engineer, who develops these models.

Application period
The next application period will be from 9 January 2012 to 14 February 2012.
