International experts were gathered to Ammattimessut II event on 4 October 2017 in Helsinki. The fair programme included various presentations on entrepreneurship, on-job training, employment and labour law and SIMHE services offered in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The event was organised in Finnish.

The event was hosted by Yagmur Özberkan and Susani Mahadura from the radio programme “Mahadura & Özberkan” on Yle Puhe. Mahadura shared the story of her Sri Lankan father in Finland and Turkish-origin Özberkan, like the two other immigrants representing their employers, shared their success stories in finding employment in their preferred fields in Finland.

Niina Tapanainen from SIMHE-Metropolia, gave a presentation about SIMHE services in the Helsinki metropolitan area. SIMHE-Metropolia took part in Ammattimessut for the fourth time, now for the first time together with the University of Helsinki that has joined the Supporting Immigrants in Higher Education in Finland (SIMHE) network in 2017. Both institutions offer guidance and counselling services for immigrants and Metropolia also offers services for recognition of competences in the fields of technology and business.

There was time reserved to familiarize oneself with the fair stands in which organizations represented their services for immigrants and there were representatives ready to encounter the participants and answer their questions. SIMHE services raised a lot of interest among the participants and both institutions got connected with many potential new clients. The SIMHE services are aimed at immigrants who are eligible to apply for, or have already studied in higher education. Demand for SIMHE services seemed to be high also in this event among the immigrant background people to prove the need to continue developing the services further.

Ammattimessut II was organized together by "MAHTAVA" project and "At Work in Finland" project. According to the Manager of the MAHTAVA project, Heidi Lehtovaara, the goal of Ammattimessut II was to bring together immigrants interested in professional training and working life as well as institutions, companies and organizations. The event raised massive interest and both set of Ammattimessut in 2017 were fully booked in record time.

Project manager Elina Nurmi informs that the goal of the "At Work in Finland" project is to develop the career opportunities and integration of international residents in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The goal is also to support the local companies and employers to better utilize the existing international competences and skills in the area. Thus, such of events are planned to be offered also in the future.
