Changes in the entrance examinations 2020

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Metropolia’s entrance examinations for degree programmes conducted in English will not be arranged as planned.

Bachelor's degree programme in Electronics (updated on 30 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the national entrance examination of Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Technology has been changed from contact exam to online exam and interview. Please note that the original times have changed. 
 
The exam will now contain two phases: 1) online exam and 2) online interview.
 
1) The online exam (mathematics, physics/chemistry + motivation) 

  • Opens on Monday April 6th at 10.00 Finnish time 
  • Closes 4 hours later at 2 pm (Eastern European time
  • Points awarded: max 70 p; minimum requirement 20 p

Best applicants will be invited to an online interview based on the points of the online exam.
 
2) The online interview

  • Invitations will be sent on Friday April 17th 2020
  • Individual online interviews (15 to 30 min - video connection required) between April 21st and April 24th 2020
  • Points awarded: max 30 points; minimum requirement 10 points

For the exam you will need a computer, and an internet connection. Further information will be sent via email on Friday 3rd April 2020.

Bachelor's degree programme in European Business Administration (updated on 23 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the joint entrance exams for Metropolia's degree programmes in European Business Administration and International Business and Logistics has been changed from on-site exam to online exam. The online exam consists of two parts: a written assignment (max 20 points, min 10 points) and a video assignment (max 20 points, min 10 points). Both parts must be passed at an acceptable level. Applicants should prepare for the exam by ensuring they have a working computer and internet connection. Further instructions will be sent to eligible applicants via e-mail on 24 March 2020 at the latest.

Exam time: 31 March 2020 at 9.00 am - 4.00 pm (Eastern European time)

Admission criteria: 20% of the students will be selected on the basis of the SAT-test and 80% of the students will be selected on the basis of the online exams.

Bachelor's degree programme in Nursing (updated on 25 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrance exams for the degree programme in questions have been changed from contact exams to online exams. The online exams will take place on 3 April 2020 at 9.30 am - 11.30 am. Applicants should prepare for the exam by ensuring they have a working computer and internet connection. During the exam applicants will be required to create a video (with a computer or mobile phone) to demonstrate their oral Finnish and English skills. Exam time: 3 April 2020 at 9.30 am - 11.30 am (Eastern European time)

Admission criteria: student selections will be made solely on the basis of the online exams (further information at Studyinfo).

Bachelor's degree programme in Social Services (updated on 27 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrance exams for the degree programme in questions have been changed from contact exams to online exams in two phases:

  • Entrance examination phase 1 will take place on 7 April 2020 at 9 am (Eastern European time). 
    The first phase of the entrance examination consists of the following two separately evaluated sections:
    • Written exam: evaluation 0-50 points, min 10 points (please note the pre-reading material below)
    • English language test: evaluation pass or fail

Based on the results of the phase 1, the 40 applicants with the highest scores are chosen to move to the phase 2. Applicants selected for the exam phase 2 will be notified by noon on 8 April 2020.

  • Entrance examination phase 2 will take place between 9-12 April 2020. 
    The second phase of the entrance examination consists of the following two separately evaluated sections:
    • Group dialog: evaluation pass or fail
    • Finnish language test (only for those whose mother tongue is not Finnish): evaluation pass or fail

All eligible applicants who have the required Finnish language skills (at least a level B1) will be invited to the entrance examination.

Pre reading material: the written entrance exam is based on material accessed freely from the internet. As you will have a limited time to answer the questions, you should get acquainted with the material carefully in advance. We recommend that you have copies of your reading material and notes with you while taking the exam online. Please come prepared, having read or watched the material beforehand as you will not have time to do so during the timed online test. Due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding this year’s entrance exam we have reduced the pre-reading material to the following:

Master's degree programmes in Business Informatics (updated on 24 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrance examination for the Master’s degree programmes in Business Informatics has been cancelled and replaced with two admission assignments. The admission assignment instructions can be found at https://www.metropolia.fi/en/academics/applying/joint-application-1-spring-2020/admission-assignments/business-informatics. The admission assignments should be uploaded to the online application at Studyinfo.fi by 6 April 2020 at 4 pm. Further instructions will be sent to the applicants via e-mail on 24 March 2020.  

Exam time: exam cancelled and replaced with an admission assignment that must be delivered by 6 April 2020 at 4 pm (Eastern European time).

Admission criteria: student selections will be made solely on the basis of the admission assignments 1 (min 30, max 50 points) and 2 (min 30, max 50 points)

Master's degree programmes in Health Business Management (updated on 20 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrance examination for the degree programmes in question has been changed from on-site exam to phone interviews. The phone interviews will be based on an article sent to applicants via e-mail on 23rd of March 2020. The phone interviews will take place on 24 March 2020 between 9 am - 1 pm. Applicants should be prepared to answer the phone at any time within the above time frame. Further instructions have been sent to the applicants invited to the entrance examination via e-mail on 19 March 2020.  

Exam time: 24 March 2020 between 9 am - 1 pm (Eastern European time)

Admission criteria: student selections will be made solely on the basis of the phone interviews (min 20 points, max 50 points).

Master's degree programme in Industrial Management (updated on 20 March 2020)

In order to comply with the Finnish government recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrance examination in question has been cancelled. Student selections will be made solely on the basis of the Industrial Management pre-assignments, which the applicants were required to upload to the applications by the end of the application period. 

Exam time: exam cancelled

Admission criteria: student selections will be made solely on the basis of the pre-assignments (min 20 points, max 100 points).

Master's degree programme in Information Technology (updated on 20 March 2020)

No changes expected. Student selections will be made as planned solely on the basis of the Information Technology pre-assignments, which the applicants were required to upload to the applications by the end of the application period. 

Exam time: no exam

Admission criteria: student selections will be made solely on the basis of the pre-assignments (min 20 points, max 100 points).

Master's degree programme in Procurement (updated on 20 March 2020)

No changes expected. Student selections will be made as planned solely on the basis of the Procurement pre-assignments, which the applicants were required to upload to the applications by the end of the application period.

Admission criteria: student selections will be made solely on the basis of the pre-assignments (min 20 points, max 100 points).
