Transfer Application 2022-2023

The instructions on this site are for applying to Metropolia's English language degree programmes. You can find application instructions for degree programmes in Finnish by changing the language of the site to Finnish and choosing Siirtohaku.

The following information apply to the Transfer Application, in which you apply for your study entitlement to be transferred to a new higher education institution or degree programme from the beginning of the autumn term 2022 or from the beginning of the spring term 2023.

All times refer to current local time in Finland.

The rights to change the information are reserved until the beginning of the application period.

General Admission Criteria

Application

The right to study cannot be transferred during the same academic term (autumn term from 1 August to 31 December or spring term from 1 January to 31 July) in which the student accepted the study place in question. A student may transfer at the beginning of the term following the approved transfer decision at the earliest.

Application period is the same for all degree programmes:

  • application period for studies starting in the autumn term 2022: 1 May 2022 at 8:00 am - 15 May 2022 at 3 pm
  • application period for studies starting in the spring term 2023: 1 November 2022 at 8:00 am - 15 November 2022 at 3 pm

The application is submitted electronically at Studyinfo (Finnish national education database). Links to the application options (degree programmes) at Studyinfo can be found below in section "Degree Program-Specific Selection Criteria".

In this application process, an applicant may submit only one application and apply for only one degree programme per application period. It is no longer possible to change the degree programme indicated in the application after the application period has ended.

The applicant must prove that he or she meets the requirements for student selection with the official documents attached to the application no later than 7 days after the application period has ended by 3 pm. List of the required documents can be found below in section "Required documents" .

Required documents

The following documents must be uploaded as an appendix to the application by the time the application is submitted or no later than by the end of the application period:

  • an official up-to-date study certificate containing information on the study right and full attendance history; and
  • an official up-to-date transcript of records; and
  • applicant's free-form plan on how his/her previous studies can be accredited as part of the curriculum for the degree programme in question (note: the student's plan is not binding on the degree programme).
  • documents that exempt from the tuition fee if applicable (see Metropolia's tuition fees website); and
  • official translations of all documents that are not in Finnish, Swedish or English; and
  • other appendices that may be required by the degree program, such as CVs, pre-assignments, degrees, etc. (see the "Degree Programme Specific Admission Criteria" below).

In addition to the above, those who apply to the Master's degree programmes must also upload the following documents to the application by the time the application is submitted or no later than by the end of the application period:

The employment certificates must contain at least the following information:
    • the exact starting and ending date of the employment relationship (if the employment relationship continues, the employee must request a temporary employment certificate)
    • employer contact information
    • work tasks
    • working hours in the case of part-time work
  • Certificates of entrepreneurship if the entrepreneurship is to be taken into account as part of the work experience required for the Master's degree programme in question. Entrepreneurship is accepted as work experience if there is an extract from the company register, as well as a certificate proving that the applicant is or has been YEL or MYEL insured (YEL = Entrepreneurial pension insurance, MYEL = occupational pension insurance for farmers, foresters, fishermen and reindeer herders and their family members). Foreign entrepreneurship is proven by corresponding official documents.
  • Official translations of all documents that are not in Finnish, Swedish or English.

Please note! Documents are not required in case the required information appears in Metropolia's study register or in the Finnish national database of education data (Koski). If your educational data shows in the national database Koski it is enough for you to send viewing rights to your educational information at the national database. The right to view educational data is granted as follows (the service is only available in Finnish/Swedish):

  1. logg in to the My Studyinfo -service (My completed studies)
  2. select "jaa suoritustietojasi"
  3. select the degree(s) for which you want to give the viewing rights,
  4. check the validity of the link (the link must be valid for at least 6 months after sending the application), and
  5. attach the link(s) to you application at Studyinfo.fi.

Use of the My Studyinfo -service requires Suomi.fi e-Identification with Finnish online banking credentials (e-identification must be enabled), a Finnish electronic ID-card or mobile certificate. Identification methods for foreigners in Suomi.fi e-Identification are not currently supported.

The information that show in the Metropolia's study register does not need to be verified by the applicant in any way.

If all the required documents and information are not delivered by the deadline, the application will be rejected as incomplete.

If the degree programme in question uses an entrance examination and you need individual arrangements in an entrance examination (e.g. extra time, technical aid, or other special arrangement) due to an injury, illness, reading disability, or other special reason, you can submit an application for the individual arrangements. The application for individual arrangements must be sent via e-mail (secure mail) to admissions [at] metropolia.fi (admissions[at]metropolia[dot]fi) no later than 7 days after submitting the application by 3:00 pm. See more detailed instructions on Metropolia's web site for individual arrangements.

Student selection

The admission criteria are defined for each degree programme and can be found below in section "Degree Programme Specific Admission Criteria" .

This application process is carried out as "standard admission", in which student selections are made after the end of the application period. If more than one applicant is competing for the same study place, the applicants may, if necessary, be ranked on the basis of their academic performance (credits and grades).

Student selection decisions are made on the basis of documents and information submitted by the deadline. Information or documents submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Partial credits can only be accepted if the assessment and the number of credits completed are shown on the official transcript of records submitted by the deadline. If the entry of the study transcript in the transcript of records has been delayed due to reasons beyond the applicant's control, the applicant must submit a free-form certificate from the higher education institution for the studies completed by the end of the application period.

It is possible to apply through several separate application procedures at the same time. In order to avoid a situation where an applicant is offered more than one study place in the same degree programme and academic term, applicant's other separate applications for the same degree programme and academic term may be rejected on the basis of a previously offered place (according to the one study place per academic term provision). In these cases, however, the decision on which applications to cancel will always be made on the basis of the most advantageous option for the applicant.

The student selection decision will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the applicant on the application form. The student selection decisions are published at Studyinfo:

  • by 30 June 2022 when applying for studies starting in autumn 2022
  • by 15 December 2022 when applying for studies starting in spring 2023

Student selection is conditional until the applicant’s certificates have been verified by the Student and Admission Services. The University of Applied Sciences may cancel the selection if the certificates are not submitted to the University of Applied Sciences by the specified deadline, if the applicant has not completed the studies required for student selection by the deadline or if the applicant has provided incorrect information in his / her application.

A person who has applied to become a student of Metropolia may present a written appeal to the Legal Protection Board of Metropolia within fourteen (14) days as of the publication date of the admissions results. For more information, please visit Metropolia's appeal process web site.

Accepting a study place

Confirmation of the place of study requires the applicant to take several measures by the given deadline. Instructions for confirming a place of study can be found on a separate page:

If a transfer student accepts a new right to study, he or she forfeits the earlier right to study on which the transfer was based.

Starting the studies

Instructions on how to start your studies can be found on Metropolia's new student's page.

The study entitlement (i.e. study time) is calculated to start on the day when the student has accepted the place of study at the previous higher education institution or degree programme. With the transfer the study entitlement continues in the new higher education institution or degree programme from the beginning of the semester for which the student has applied for transfer. If a student has applied for transfer to the autumn term 2022, his / her study entitlement will continue with the transfer in the new higher education institution or degree programme on 1 August 2022, and if the student has applied for transfer to the spring term 2023, his / her study entitlement will continue with transfer in the new higher education institution or degree programme on 1 January 2023.

Transfer student's study time is determined by the standard study time of the degree programme received in the transfer. The standard study time is calculated according to the scope of the degree programme received in the transfer.(240 cr = 4 years, 210 cr = 3.5 years, etc.) and all the terms of attendance and absence spent by the student at his / her higher education institution or degree programme of origin are deducted from it.

Students applying for a transfer should note that their maximum study period or the period for which they are entitled to receive student financial aid will not be extended due to the transfer. The maximum study period is calculated from the date on which the student accepted the study place in the previous higher education institution.
