Orientation and Academic Calendar
Your exchange period starts with an orientation where you will get all the information regarding your studies, practical issues as well as daily life in Finland. Most of all, you will get to meet other exchange students! Attending the orientation is compulsory, so make sure to plan your arrival accordingly.

Semester dates
- Spring semester 2024: 10 January - 24 May 2024
- Orientation days 10 - 12 January (location published later)
- Study period 15 January - 24 May 2024
To do before the orientation days
- Arrive to Finland at least a couple of days before the orientation to leave time for settling in.
- Pick up your study envelope containing study related documents (incl. public transport discount document) from the info desk of the before the orientation days. You will receive more information about this later. If you can't pick up the envelope, you will receive it in the orientation.
- Visit HSL Service point (Helsinki region public transportation) to buy your student discounted travel card before the orientation days.

Wednesday 10 January on Myyrmäki Campus (Room MMC345)
- 09.30 - 10.00: Arrival on campus (A-lobby), registration

- 11.00 - 11.30: Info session: Metropolia IT Services
- 11.30 - 12.00: Info session: Metropolia Library Services
- 12.00 - 13.00: Lunch with tutors
- Evening programme with tutors (more information during the day)
Friday 12 January on Karamalmi Campus (Room KME659)
- 09.00 - 09.30: Arrival on campus (Please note, Karamalmi campus!)
- 09.30 - 10.00: Studying at Metropolia
- 10.00 - 11.00: Possibility to register on courses, checking schedules and enrollments, possibility to fill in the DVV form together
- 11.00 - 12.15: Campus tour, lunch with tutors
- 13.30: Group appointment for the Digital and Population Data Services Agency to get the personal identity codes. More information about this in the orientation.
- Evening programme with tutors (more information during the day)

Metropolia Account
We will upload your personal Metropolia login information (= username and password) into Mobility-Online by end of November. Please activate the username by the deadline mentioned in the username document. After you have activated your Metropolia account, you will be able to access Metropolia’s intranet and the course registration system OMA.
Studies
Information about courses offered for exchange students in the field of technology can be found on our website for incoming exchange students. Keep in mind that you cannot choose courses from other fields of study! See also section Studies for all exchange students to find out about, for example, Finnish for Exchange Students courses.
The Learning Agreement you submitted with your exchange application is now being reviewed. The signed Learning Agreement will be uploaded into Mobility-Online when ready (PDF) or it will be signed digitally (digital LA). As soon as the Learning Agreement has been signed, you will be informed about this via email.
Intranet and Course Registrations in the OMA System
After you have received and activated your Metropolia username and password, please visit orientation.metropolia.fi to find instructions how to:
- find and subscribe to the workspace of your degree programme at Metropolia: IT & Media Engineering, DP in Electronics, etc. Please also join the Metropolia Incoming Exchange Students workspace.
- find instructions on how to use Metropolia’s Schedule Machine. Most of the course schedules will be available by the end of December in Metropolia’s Schedule Machine where you can search for specific courses by their name or course code.
- find course enrollment instructions. If possible, please enroll before the semester starts using the OMA course registration system. Please check course descriptions and the language of instruction before enrolling. However, if you find it difficult, you can also enroll with the help of our student tutors during the orientation days. The course enrollment periods are:
- By mid-December:
- Electronics (chosen applicants are guaranteed places on the courses)
- Information Technology
- International semesters by Industrial Management: Global ICT Business and Supply Chain Management (“Industrial Processes”) (chosen applicants are guaranteed places on the courses)
- Real Estate and Construction (chosen applicants are guaranteed places on the courses)
