Study module: Game Business (25 cr)

Metropolia’s game education is expanding. During spring term 2018 we will take in 25 Open UAS students who will focus during the course to game business topics like designing game revenue, funding and monetization, marketing games and working in the game industry. 

After completing the spring term course, students will continue their studies in autumn term by joining in actual teams and start-ups formed in Metropolia. They can put into practice their business skills and either join an ongoing game or start from scratch with a team and create their business plan. Other team members are designers and programmers who are Metropolia degree students majoring in Game Applications, and artists who are students from Metropolia Open UAS or from our partner vocational schools.

Extent of the study module is 25 credits and it consists of: 

  • Spring 2018: Game Business (10 cr)
  • Autumn 2018: Game Project (15 cr)

Students who complete the study module will have abilities to operate in game companies or in the management or production tasks, search and close funding, complete publishing deals, design and create monetization models and productize games.


Game Business course is held during spring term, 16 Feb - 1 June 2018. Lessons are on Fridays 10:00 - 16:00. (NB! changes to the schedule may occur)

Game Project will be organized during autumn term 2018 (August - December, time TBA).

Courses are held in Metropolia Leppävaara Campus (Vanha maantie 6, Espoo)

Teaching language

Studies will be in English unless all students are Finnish-speaking.

Study Places

25 study places for Open UAS students. Study module won’t be implemented if there are not enough participants.

Study skills and previous know-how

Open UAS students are not required to have completed degree but they must have sufficient study skills and previous knowledge in business to successfully participate the study module. Students of Game Business study module are expected to have either previous business experience, entrepreneurship experience, marketing, monetization or business studies. To ensure this, students are asked to provide a link to their CV and introduction video. 


Enrolment deadline is 8 January 2018 at 23:59. NB! Enrolment time has been extended to 22 Jan at 23:59. 

Students will be notified of the acceptance to study module by email by 31 January 2018 at the latest.
