Sustainability crisis – a challenge and an opportunity

The global sustainability crisis challenges our current concepts of the economy and wellbeing. We need a clear change of course in favour of a carbon-neutral circular economy and low-emission, resource-efficient and smart solutions. At the same time, it is important to change people's way of thinking and acting in terms of consumption, product ownership and wealth. In future, economic growth and wellbeing must be built within the carrying capacity of the planet.

Clean and sustainable solutions open up significant markets to forerunners. According to various forecasts and market reports (produced by, for example, the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra), Finland and the other Nordic countries have a chance to become forerunners and therefore achieve a proportionally large share of the market in low-emission, resource-efficient and smart solutions.

Boosted by Sitra, Finland has in recent years worked purposefully to promote circular economy in Finland. Finland has, among other things, made the world's first national circular economy roadmap

Sitra was recently awarded for its important role and work to promote circular economy in Finland in the Circular Awards competition held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum.
