Program details

Target group: The Postgraduate Diploma programme in Technical Art for Games is designed to equip participants with advanced technical and artistic competencies required in modern AAA game production. The curriculum focuses on technical art pipelines, procedural content creation, real-time graphics, performance optimization, and workflow automation within game engines.

Participants will develop strong scripting and technical problem-solving skills, and gain hands-on experience in building tools, shaders, procedural systems, and optimized content for real-time environments using industry-standard DCC tools and game engines. The programme emphasises practical, project-based learning through cross-disciplinary collaboration, enabling students to build a professional technical art portfolio during their studies.

In addition to technical production skills, the programme includes training in performance profiling, publishing processes, and analytics — offering a comprehensive foundation for future employment as Technical Artists, Technical Environment Artists, or pipeline specialists in the game industry.

  • ECTS Credit value: 60 credits, an additional 30 credit units will be required if the applicant's Bachelor’s Degree consists of 3 years of study (equivalent to 180 ECTS credits).

  • Language of instruction: English
  • Duration of implementation: 12 months full-time for 60 ECTS (18 months for 60+30 ECTS)
  • Mode of delivery: On-campus in Finland
  • Start of studies: One (1) designated semester entry point: January 2027​​​
  • Group size: Maximum 30 students (minimum of 20 students required to start the programme)

Eligibility criteria

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Education Degree (equivalent at least to EQF Level 6): minimum of 3 years of full-time studies (180/240 ECTS) including a minimum of 40 ECTS credits in higher education studies within the field of technology. Relevant fields may include, for example, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or Software Development.

  • Work Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience acquired after completing a Bachelor's degree.

  • English Language Proficiency: Skills equivalent to IELTS Academic 6.5. No formal certificate is required, as proficiency will be assessed during the online interview.

Fee for PDG in Technical Art for Games is 11.900,00 € (VAT 25.5 % incl.)

Eligibility for Master’s Degree programme in Information Technology

Students have to meet the entry requirements of the respective programme. Up to 30 ECTS of the studies in the Diploma Programme are accreditable towards Master’s Degree.
