  1. Accept your chosen study place
You will be sent an automatic email when you have a study place to be accepted at Studyinfo. You must accept the place of study by the given deadline or you will lose it. Acceptance of a study place can be made via the link in the email notification. Binding acceptance of study place prevents the admission of other study places leading to a Finnish higher education degree during the academic term in question (see the one study place per term provision at Studyinfo.fi). Binding acceptance also means that the applicant will no longer be a first-timer in the future as described at Studyinfo.fi (Section 28 b of the University of Applied Sciences Act 932/2014).

  2. Register for the academic year as present or absent
Registration for the academic year is obligatory for all degree students at Metropolia. The tuition fee should be paid by the deadline for accepting the study place.

  4. Sign the Student Agreement if applicable
If you are not a citizen of an EU/EEA country and you are starting your studies in one of Metropolia's English-taught Bachelor's or Master's degree programmes, you must sign the Student Agreement (pdf) and deliver it to Metropolia’s Student and Admission Services by the deadline for accepting the study place. The Agreement concerns Metropolia University of Applied Sciences tuition fees and scholarships and specifies the rights and obligations of all parties, and the terms under which the student may receive a scholarship for his/her studies at the Programme. For more information please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

This can be done by logging in to the My Studyinfo -service and completing the following steps (the service is available in Finnish or Swedish only):

Starting the studies

All information on when, where and how to start the studies is available in page Information for New Student. Instructions will not be sent directly to new students.

Study certificates, student discount documents, user ID and password etc. can be given to you on the first day of your studies (orientation days) at the earliest. Until then you can use your acceptance letter in order to verify your study place e.g. when applying for student housing, visa or residence permit.

By downloading the Tuudo mobile app, you can use various Metropolia web services easily on your smart phone. By using Tuudo's student ID you can also get student discounts e.g. in public transportation (VR, HSL and Matkahuolto). Tuudo is free for all Metropolia students.

From January 2021 onwards, those university of applied sciences students, who are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (YTHS), have been required to pay a healthcare fee to Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland). No bill will be sent on the healthcare fee, and thus you have to pay the fee on your own initiative. The due dates are determined based on the date on which you have registered as attending. Further instructions on how to pay the healthcare fee can be found on Kela's web site.

Please note, finding suitable accommodation in Helsinki area can be challenging. Therefore, apply accommodation right away after receiving the acceptance letter. You can either apply accommodation from HOAS or from the private market.

It is imperative that you attend the orientation days at the beginning of the studies. Starting your studies late can seriously affect the progress of your studies. If you are not able to do so, please contact the degree programme. Contact details will be published on Metropolia's web page information for New Student.
