The instructions vary depending on the application process, so choose the application process through which you were offered the study place in question:

Spring Joint Application 1

The following instructions apply to the Spring 2022 Joint Application 1 for English-language degree programmes, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the autumn term of 2022.

The results of the student selections will be published no later than Friday 3 June 2022. Acceptance from the waiting list will end on Tuesday 2 August 2022 at 3:00 pm (current local time in Finland).

Confirmation of a place of study requires that all the steps described below are completed by the deadline for accepting the study place:

1. Accept the study place

You will be sent an automatic email when you have a study place to be accepted at Studyinfo. Acceptance of a study place takes place via the My Studyinfo -service or the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

The place of study must be accepted no later than:

  • by 15 July 2022 at 3 pm (*) if the student selection decision has been published on or before 8 July 2022, or
  • within 7 days of the publication of the student selection by 3 pm (*) if the student selection decision has been published after 8 July 2022.

Please note:

  • If you do not accept the place of study by the given deadline, you will lose it.
  • You can only take one place of study leading to a higher education degree from an education starting in the same academic term (spring term or autumn term). More detailed information on the one study place per academic term -provision in the Studyinfo.
  • Acceptance of a study place is binding choice and you cannot change it later.
  • Acceptance of a study place automatically cancels all the other application options for education leading to a Finnish higher education degree.
  • After you accept a study place leading to a Finnish higher education degree, you will no longer be a first-time applicant and you will not be able to be selected in a first-time quota. More detailed information on the first-time quota in the Studyinfo.
  • A student may deduct the Early Bird discount (€ 1,500) from the tuition fee of the first academic term if he/she has accepted the study place and registered as present within 7 days of the publication of the student selection decision by 3 pm (*). More information can be found below in step 3 (pay the tuition fee).
  • If you need a residence permit for your studies, check your National Learner ID (that shows in the same place where you accept the study place) and write it down for yourself, as you must inform it to the Finnish Immigration Services when applying for a residence permit. The residence permit application should be submitted immediately after the study place has been confirmed. More detailed instructions on the residence permit application for studies is available on the web site of the Finnish Immigration Services.

2. Register for the academic year

If you accept the study place, you must register for the first academic year as present or absent (autumn term 2022 and spring term 2023) by the deadline for accepting the study place. If you do not register for the first academic year by the deadline, you will be automatically registered as present for the first academic year by Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

Registration takes place electronically in connection with the acceptance of a study place of study via the My studyinfo -service or via the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

According to the Polytechnics Act, you can only register for absence for the first academic year for the following reasons:

  • the student performs service in accordance with the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Civil Service Act (1446/2007) or the Act on Voluntary Military Service for Women (194/1995);
  • the student is on maternity, paternity or parental leave; or
  • the student is unable to start his / her studies due to his / her own illness or injury.

If you register as absent, you must provide proof of the reason for your absence by the deadline for accepting the study place. See Metropolia's web site “Absence on the First Year” for more detailed instructions.

Please note! A student may deduct the Early Bird discount (€ 1,500) from the tuition fee of the first academic term if he/she has accepted the study place and registered as present within 7 days of the publication of the student selection decision by 3 pm (*). 3. Pay the tuition fee if applicable

Tuition fees apply to non-EU/EEA citizens selected for English language studies leading to a Finnish higher education degree. Students may be exempted from tuition on the basis of certain documents. Students who are required to pay will be sent more detailed information regarding tuition fees after student selection.

Please note! A student may deduct the Early Bird discount (€ 1,500) from the tuition fee of the first academic term if he/she has accepted the study place and registered for the academic year as present within 7 days of the publication of the student selection decision by 3 pm (current local time in Finland). More detailed information regarding tuition fees and the Early Bird discount can be found on Metropolia's website.

4. Sign and deliver the student agreement if applicable

All non-EU/EEA citizens selected for English language studies leading to a Finnish higher education degree must sign a student agreement (pdf) and submit it to Metropolia's Student and Admission Services by the deadline for accepting the study place.

The agreement applies to Metropolia University of Applied Sciences' tuition fees and scholarships and defines the rights and obligations of all parties and the terms under which a student may receive a scholarship for their studies in the degree programme. For more information, contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

5. Deliver the health report if requested

Those applying to study within Health Care and Social Services must have sufficient health and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work placement periods as part of the studies. In addition, those selected for the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Sciencemust have sufficient visual acuity and normal color vision.

You have been asked on the application forms to assess your own suitability based on your health and ability to function, and if you have reported a medical condition or similar on your application form, your student selection is conditional until your health and ability to function have been reviewed. The health and functional capacity will be checked on the basis of a separate medical report, which you will be required to complete by the deadline for accepting the study place if applicable. A separate email will be sent to you if the matter concerns you.

In addition, those admitted to the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science must present a certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, optician or optometrist at the beginning of their studies. The student selection is conditional until applicants' vision has been checked.

6. Make sure you have submitted all the documents used as a basis for selection

Documents must be submitted in the following cases:

  • If you have not provided, at the time of application, a copy of the eligibility certificate details of which cannot be found in the Finnish national education database Koski (only available in Finnish/Swedish).
  • If you applied for a Bachelor's degree and completed one of the following degrees during the application period:
    • Finnish high school curriculum without a matriculation examination,
    • Finnish vocational upper secondary degree at the time of application in Åland,
    • degree completed abroad,
    • International Baccalaureate (IB) *,
    • European Baccalaureate (EB), or
    • Deutsche Internationale Abiturprüfung (DIA) / Reifeprüfung (RP).
  • If you applied for a Master's degree and completed the degrees/studies or work experience required for eligibility during the application period , as a result of which you must submit:
    • in the case of work experience: copies of employment certificates (note that, for example, a CV, employment contract, employment pension statement or salary certificate does not correspond to an employment certificate), and
    • in the case of degrees/studies: a copy of the higher education degree certificate, as well as official transcripts (*) or a link to the performance data in the Finnish national education database Koski.

* IB graduates will submit a copy of the final grades “transcript of grades”.

Note! In addition, a copy of the official translation must be submitted for certificates that are not written in Finnish, Swedish or English.

The required documents must be uploaded by the deadline for acceptance of study as an attachment of the application at Studyinfo. A clear picture taken with a smartphone or camera is enough. You can access the downloaded documents for your application via the My Studyinfo -service, or by editing the application via the link you received by e-mail. If you have already uploaded the certificates as an attachment to the application, you do not need to resubmit them. You can find more detailed information concerning the required attachments in the application instructions on Metropolia's website.

If the required information is available at the Finnish national education database Koski, it is not necessary to verify it with certificates but it is enough to grant viewing rights to the educational information at Koski. This can be done by logging in to the My Studyinfo -service (use of the service requires authentication with a bank ID, mobile certificate or certificate card) and completing the following steps (the service is available in Finnish or Swedish only):

  • Go to "My completed studies"
  • select "jaa suoritustietojasi"
  • select the degree(s) for which you want to give the viewing rights 
  • check the validity of the link (the link must be valid for at least 6 months after sending the application)
  • attach the link(s) to you application at Studyinfo.

The University of Applied Sciences may cancel the student selection if the certificates are not submitted to the University of Applied Sciences by the specified deadline or if the applicant has provided incorrect information in his / her application. 7. Get ready for the studies

Sprig Joint Application 2

The following instructions apply to the Spring 2022 Joint Application 2 for Finnish-language degree programmes, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the autumn term of 2022.

The results of student selections will be published for certificate based student selections no later than Monday 30 May 2022 and for other student selections no later than Friday 8 July 2022. Acceptance from the waiting list will end on Tuesday 2 August 2022 at 3:00 pm (current local time in Finland).

Confirmation of a place of study requires that all the steps described below are completed by the deadline for accepting the study place:

1. Accept the study place

You will be sent an automatic email when you have a study place to be accepted at Studyinfo. Acceptance of a study place is only possible once the student selections for all application options of the joint application in questions have been published. Acceptance of a study place takes place via the My Studyinfo -service or the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. The place of study must be accepted no later than:

  • by 15 July 2022 at 3 pm (*) if the student selection decision has been published on or before 8 July 2022, or

Separate Application for International Degree Programmes

The following instructions apply to Separate Application for International Degree Programmes, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the autumn term of 2022.

This application process is carried out as a flexible admission (i.e. “rolling admission”), which means that student selections are made as applications arrive. Metropolia strives to get the applicant a selection decision as quickly as possible, but how quickly you get a student selection decision depends on several different factors. As a result, in some cases it can take more than two months to obtain a student selection decision (for example, if the application is sent just after the start of the holiday period), but the processing time can also be considerably shorter.

The following instructions apply to Application on the Basis of Metropolia's Open UAS Studies, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the autumn term of 2022.

Application on the Basis of Finnish Higher Education Studies

The following instructions apply to Application on the Basis of Finnish Higher Education Studies, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the autumn term of 2022.

This application process is carried out as a flexible admission (i.e. “rolling admission”), which means that student selections are made as applications arrive. Metropolia strives to get the applicant a selection decision as quickly as possible, but how quickly you get a student selection decision depends on several different factors. As a result, in some cases it can take more than two months to obtain a student selection decision (for example, if the application is sent just after the start of the holiday period), but the processing time can also be considerably shorter.

Confirmation of a place of study requires that all the steps described below are completed by the deadline for accepting the study place:

1. Accept the study place

You will be sent an automatic email when you have a study place to be accepted at Studyinfo. Acceptance of a study place takes place electronically at Studyinfo via the My Studyinfo -service or the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

The place of study must be accepted no later than:

  • by 15 July 2022 at 3 pm (*) if the student selection decision has been published on or before 8 July 2022, or
  • within 7 days of the publication of the student selection by 3 pm (*) if the student selection decision has been published after 8 July 2022.

Please note:

  • If you do not accept the place of study by the given deadline, you will lose it.
  • You can only take one place of study leading to a higher education degree from an education starting in the same academic term (spring term or autumn term). More detailed information on the one study place per academic term -provision in the Studyinfo.
  • Acceptance of a study place is binding choice and you cannot change it later.
  • Acceptance of a study place automatically cancels all the other application options for education leading to a Finnish higher education degree.
  • After you accept a study place leading to a Finnish higher education degree, you will no longer be a first-time applicant and you will not be able to be selected in a first-time quota. More detailed information on the first-time quota in the Studyinfo.
  • A student may deduct the Early Bird discount (€ 1,500) from the tuition fee of the first academic term if he/she has accepted the study place and registered as present within 7 days of the publication of the student selection decision by 3 pm (*). More information can be found below in step 3 (pay the tuition fee).
  • If you need a residence permit for your studies, check your National Learner ID (that shows in the same place where you accept the study place) and write it down for yourself, as you must inform it to the Finnish Immigration Services when applying for a residence permit. The residence permit application should be submitted immediately after the study place has been confirmed. More detailed instructions on the residence permit application for studies is available on the web site of the Finnish Immigration Services.

Registration takes place electronically in connection with the acceptance of a study place of study via the My studyinfo -service or via the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

According to the Polytechnics Act, you can only register for absence for the first academic year for the following reasons:

  • the student performs service in accordance with the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Civil Service Act (1446/2007) or the Act on Voluntary Military Service for Women (194/1995);
  • the student is on maternity, paternity or parental leave; or
  • the student is unable to start his / her studies due to his / her own illness or injury.

If you register as absent, you must provide proof of the reason for your absence by the deadline for accepting the study place. See Metropolia's web site “Absence on the First Year” for more detailed instructions.

Tuition fees apply to non-EU/EEA citizens selected for English language studies leading to a Finnish higher education degree. Students may be exempted from tuition on the basis of certain documents. Students who are required to pay will be sent more detailed information regarding tuition fees after student selection.

4. Sign and deliver the student agreement if applicable

All non-EU/EEA citizens selected for English language studies leading to a Finnish higher education degree must sign a student agreement (pdf) and submit it to Metropolia's Student and Admission Services by the deadline for accepting the study place.

The agreement applies to Metropolia University of Applied Sciences' tuition fees and scholarships and defines the rights and obligations of all parties and the terms under which a student may receive a scholarship for their studies in the degree programme. 5. Deliver the health report if requested

Those applying to study within Health Care and Social Services must have sufficient health and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work placement periods as part of the studies. In addition, those selected for the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Sciencemust have sufficient visual acuity and normal color vision.

You have been asked on the application forms to assess your own suitability based on your health and ability to function, and if you have reported a medical condition or similar on your application form, your student selection is conditional until your health and ability to function have been reviewed. Transfer Application

The following instructions apply to the Transfer Application, in which you apply for your study entitlement to be transferred to a new higher education institution or degree programme from the beginning of the autumn term 2022.

The results of the student selections will be published no later than Thursday 30 June 2022.

Confirmation of a place of study requires that all the steps described below are completed by the deadline for accepting the study place:

1. Accept the study place

You will be sent an automatic email when you have a study place to be accepted at Studyinfo. Acceptance of a study place takes place electronically at Studyinfo via the My Studyinfo -service or the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

The place of study must be accepted by 31 July 2022 at 3 pm (*). More detailed instructions for accepting a study place can be found at Studyinfo.

6. Make sure you have submitted all the documents used as a basis for selection

If you have not already done so, upload all the certificates on the basis of which you have been selected to your application at Studyinfo. If the certificates are not in Finnish, Swedish or English, please also attach official translations. A clear picture taken with a smartphone or camera is enough.

The required documents must be uploaded by the deadline for acceptance of study as an attachment of the application at Studyinfo. A clear picture taken with a smartphone or camera is enough. You can access the downloaded documents for your application via the My Studyinfo -service, or by editing the application via the link you received by e-mail. If you have already uploaded the certificates as an attachment to the application, you do not need to resubmit them. You can find more detailed information concerning the required attachments in the application instructions on Metropolia's website.

If the required information is available at the Finnish national education database Koski, it is not necessary to verify it with certificates but it is enough to grant viewing rights to the educational information at Koski. This can be done by logging in to the My Studyinfo -service (use of the service requires authentication with a bank ID, mobile certificate or certificate card) and completing the following steps (the service is available in Finnish or Swedish only):

  • Go to "My completed studies"
  • select "jaa suoritustietojasi"
  • select the degree(s) for which you want to give the viewing rights 
  • check the validity of the link (the link must be valid for at least 6 months after sending the application)
  • attach the link(s) to you application at Studyinfo.

The University of Applied Sciences may cancel the student selection if the certificates are not submitted to the University of Applied Sciences by the specified deadline or if the applicant has provided incorrect information in his / her application.
