Profile of the Programme

Our program focuses on equipping you with the knowledge and skills essential for chemical and biological laboratory research. With approximately half of your contact teaching conducted in state-of-the-art laboratories, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience.

Key Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, you'll emerge as a proficient laboratory analyst, capable of performing, developing, and validating advanced analytical methods used in chemistry and biology. You can apply statistical methods in your work. You'll also have a holistic understanding of laboratory operations and daily activities..

Content of the Study Programme

Our curriculum seamlessly integrates theory and practical exercises in the laboratory. You'll delve into diverse fields such as

  • food safety
  • water and air quality
  • forensics
  • quality assurance
  • pathogenic microbe detection
  • instrumental analysis.

Moreover, you'll have the flexibility to choose 15 elective credits in subjects like sustainability, programming, leadership, procurement, or language studies. While our program doesn't cover clinical patient sampling, you'll still acquire skills necessary for biomedical sample analysis.

Starting Laboratory Science studies


Welcome to study Laboratory Science!

As a new student, you are bound to have questions. Please read carefully all the information on Information for new students page in order to make the beginning of your studies as smooth as possible. Many of your questions will be answered at the beginning of your studies at the orientation day and during the orientation course.

The information on this website will be updated during spring 2024.

The extent of the Degree programme in Laboratory Science is 210 ECTS credit points (3.5 years). After completing all the required studies, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Laboratory Services

Tuition takes place on Metropolia Myyrmäki campus (Leiritie 1, Vantaa). The program focuses on equipping you with the knowledge and skills essential for chemical and biological laboratory research. Studies integrates theory and practical exercises in the laboratory.

Please familiarize yourself with Laboratory Science curriculum before studies begin. Your study group is TXV24S1.

Commencing your studies

Your studies begin with Orientation day in August (week 33) at Metropolia's Myyrmäki campus in Vantaa.

All new students will take part in the Orientation day. You will receive essential information and advice concerning your studies in Metropolia. You will enroll in your autumn courses and get you study schedules during the orientation day. The day will also be a good opportunity for you to meet your fellow students, student tutors and staff members.

If you are unable to take part in the orientation day, make sure to contact the programme coordinator beforehand.

Study schedule

Tuition will start according to the schedules on Monday 19 August 2024.

Please make sure that you will be able to join the study group in August. If you are required to apply for a residence permit, make sure to start for the application process as soon as possible. Studies are arranged at Metropolia UAS Myyrmäki campus require attendance from Monday to Friday. If you won't be able to arrive in Finland before your studies begin, make sure to contact the programme coordinator.

Arrangements before studies

Please start all the necessary arrangements (such as residence permit, housing, insurance etc.) as soon as possible after receiving the acceptance letter, so that you are able to commence your studies in August 2024.
