Smart Solutions – Technology, Industry and Sustainable Development

The School of Smart Solutions brings together Metropolia’s strong industrial expertise and interdisciplinary technology. At the core of our work are clean and sustainable solutions, as well as the digitalisation of industry – from automation to artificial intelligence, and from materials to energy systems.

We build expertise that connects process and chemical engineering, bio- and food technology, electrical and automation engineering, electronics, environmental engineering, and data and analytics. Our goal is to educate specialists who can develop industry, production and society towards smarter and more sustainable solutions.

We are located on Metropolia’s Myyrmäki Campus, known for its modern ecosystem of technology, automation, electronics and laboratories. The campus offers students and companies up-to-date equipment, laboratories and development environments – opportunities to experiment, build and explore in practice.

Our students learn technology, industry and sustainable development from multiple perspectives. Our degrees cover the full path from laboratory environments to automation, and from energy engineering to electronics, data and robotics.

Students dive into modern technologies through both theory and hands-on work: automation, process and chemical engineering, bio- and food technology, electronics, energy and environmental engineering, laboratory analytics, software and intelligent systems development, as well as robotics and digitalisation solutions for industry.

Each year, we train around 300–400 new professionals for the needs of industry and technological service sectors. Studies include cooperation with companies, access to current laboratory and development environments, and opportunities to participate in RDI projects and commissioned assignments.

Our degrees open diverse career paths in design, product development, quality management, production, laboratory and testing roles, automation, robotics and intelligent technologies.

Research, Development and Innovation (RDI)

The RDI activities of the School of Smart Solutions focus on sustainable industry, emerging technologies and digital solutions. We work closely with companies, cities and research networks, and our projects range from rapid testing to multi-year development initiatives.

Services for companies

The School of Smart Solutions offers practical training and development services for companies and organisations. We support competence renewal, staff training and technological development needs – flexibly and in collaboration.

Training services

We provide up-to-date supplementary and continuing education for industry and technology sectors. Training can be ready-made modules or designed specifically for a company’s goals. Examples include:

Company collaboration and commissioned services
