What are path studies?

Path studies are an alternative route to a degree student. Typically, you complete the first-year studies and study alongside degree students.

After completing the path studies, you can apply to become a degree student at Metropolia through a separate application. If you are admitted, the studies you have completed as part of the path studies will be credited towards your degree, allowing you to continue your studies smoothly. Please note that completing Pathway Studies does not automatically guarantee admission to a degree programme.

For Bachelor’s degree programmes, the scope of path studies is 60 ECTS credits and in Master’s degrees 15-30 credits. The content, mode of study and other practical arrangements vary by degree programme, so always check the detailed information for the pathway you are interested in.

Who are path studies suitable for?

Path studies are right for you if

  • your goal is a study right in a degree programme
  • you want to take advantage of the intermediate year by studying purposefully
  • you are ready for full-time studies
  • you want to try to study at a UAS without losing your first-time quota in a joint application
  • your work experience doesn't yet meet the requirements for Master's degree studies, but you want to start studying master level courses while you work towards fulfilling the requirements

There are no basic training requirements for bachelor's paths. Master’s paths require a suitable bachelor's degree in the field or a corresponding university degree in the field as a basic education requirement. However, it is good to note that you need general study skills and sufficient language skills in your studies.

The Open UAS path studies are primarily intended for persons who have not previously studied in path studies at Metropolia. If necessary, students for path studies can be selected deviating from the order of enrollment on this basis.
