Who are you and what are you studying?My name is Asia Volkova and I study Master’s Degree Programme in Business Informatics. This is my second year of being a Student Ambassador. I have started my studies in September 2022 and the programme lasts two years.
Prior to applying, I had been working in the IT industry for a couple of years and realized that in addition to the work experience, I would like to enhance my personal and professional development by pursing a Master’s degree. Business Informatics was my first choice and a suitable option for me because it combines practicalities and skills to learn related to technology as well as business knowledge.
One of the best things about studying at Metropolia has been the people I have met. My classmates and teachers are very knowledgeable people, and it is always a delight to come to classes to meet them. As most of us who pursue the Master’s degree are employed full-time, the mode of the studies has been organized in a very suitable way to combine with work life: our classes take place every second Friday (either face-to-face at Myyrmäki campus or online) and everything else is self-study.
Another one of my favourites is a variety of extra-curriculum activities students can participate in. For example, I have been a part of Metropolia Motorsport Formula Student team which is one of the university’s RDI projects and got a chance to travel with the team to competitions over the summer.
Being a Student Ambassador has been a great experience and my favourite thing is visiting schools to introduce Metropolia to students and share experiences about my study path.
As to my hobbies, I like to do sports to relax my mind from work and studies, and I also have 2 rescue dogs who help me to stay active. Being Media & Marketing manager of Metropolia Motorsport team takes quite a lot of my free time as well but all in good fun!
