Head of Programme

Dr Marjatta Huhta, Principal Lecturer, Metropolia, Master's Programme in Industrial Management, Operations Management. Doctorate from Aalto University of Technology, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Organizational Behaviour and Knowledge Management as major. PhL degree in languages and sociology. She has studies conducted in Sweden and the US.

Besides work for universities she has worked for Fintra, Finnish Institute for International Trade, and as a communications trainer for companies. She has collaborated closely with companies and language and communication experts both domestically and in EU projects. She has researched training needs analyses for industry and business since 1980's, and published reports, books and study materials for business and industry.

She functions as chair for the Association of Languages for Professional Communication Proflang and initiating member of the Expert Team of Languages and Communications in UASs.

Doctorate from Aalto University of Economics, Department of Management and International Business. Dr. Rohweder has accumulated a roughly 30 year experience in the Finnish paper making industry, most of which he has acted in various general manager positions, heading e.g. business divisions, daughter companies, profit units etc.

The businesses Dr. Rohweder has been involved with have included fully owned operations in several EU countries, North America, Russia and China. During his career he has been living as an expatriate in the United States and the Netherlands.

His core competences are strategic planning, management systems and people leadership, in a global business context.

Complementary to his university role, Dr. Rohweder is an active senior management coach.

Head of Operations Management

Dr. Juha Haimala, Principal Lecturer, Metropolia, Head of Operations Management, Master's Programme in Industrial Management.

Doctorate from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Department of Industrial Management.

Dr. Haimala has 30 years of experience in the development, marketing and implementation of various automation applications in paper and steel industries, and in food & dairy business and manufacturing. During his career he has acted in various manager positions, heading e.g. marketing & sales and implementation activities, as well as in general management positions. Dr. Haimala has also 10 years of experience in entrepreneurship.

The businesses Dr. Haimala has been involved with have included operations across the EU countries and extensive networked activities globally.

His core competences include marketing and sales of capital investments, supply chains and logistics systems, activities in international business, and development of business processes with the help of automation.

Dr Leenamaija Otala is Principal Lecturer of leadership and management in Metropolia. She has been working for the past 30 year in the interface of business and academia transferring research-based knowledge into business and leadership development.

She is Adjunct Professor at Aalto-University and Tampere University of Technology. She has worked as acting professor at University of Technology, nowadays Aalto University, and Vice-Director of Cicero Learning, a multi-functional research network on learning coordinated by University of Helsinki.

Before the academic career Dr. Otala had a career in business and worked e.g. in Sanoma Group and Nokia. She has consulted numerous organizations focusing on competence management, learning organization, and well-being at work. She has also studied board work and carried out board assessments, and advised many boards and management teams. She has been a member of several boards of companies and institutions. Dr. Otala has published over 20 books and numerous articles, and she is a globally recognized author. Her current research and interest focus on leading knowledge work and human cognitive resources.

Jari A.T. Laine, MSc (Tech), is currently occupied as a project manager and doctoral student at Aalto University School of Science/BIT research center.

Jari’s current research interests are in area of global operations and supply chain management, and he is finalizing his Ph.D. with a topic of “Sourcing as Corporate Strong Arm – Evolution of Sourcing Strategies over Company Life Cycle”.

Jari has received his Master’s degree from Tampere university of Technology and he has over 20 years of industrial experience in executive positions in electronics and consumer goods industry. Jari is also Managing Director and founding partner at SunKumppani Oy, a company specialized in management consulting though the entire value chain.

Zinaida Grabovskaia, PhL, is teaching Master's thesis writing for Master's Programme in Industrial Management, Metropolia.

Licentiate from St.Petersburg State University, Zinaida combines experience in teaching, writing and communication research. She taught students of the Oriental Department, St.Petersburg State University and worked for international companies. Her present interests focus on developing research and writing skills, and teaching research methodology. She welcomes students to come and consult on the issues related to information and data search, managing research projects and mastering writing skills.
