From curiosity to expertise: A Master’s journey in Business Informatics

Published on:

Karen Cuellar graduated as Master of Business Administration in Business Informatics in 2025.

"My journey in the Metropolia Business Informatics program began with personal interest in digitalization in business processes. During my studies, the program helped me to dive also into business modelling and analytics, which were my special areas of motivation.

As a foreign professional working in the Finnish IT industry, I can assure you that the Business Informatics program will open and systematically improve your concepts how you see and understand business processes. Master´s in Business Informatics program also allowed me to join advanced analytics courses in Germany as part of my exchange studies.

Before starting the program, I had a rough idea of what my final project would be, and this idea was refined during my studies. As an outcome of my 1,5 years of studies, I developed a deep competence in business models for an industrial monitoring application which resulted in my thesis.

My advice to all aspiring Business Informatics students is to be curious, creative, and passionate about your thesis, as it will be a project demonstrating your professional growth that will pay off. Use your opportunity to develop a thesis guided by industry experts. Remember that your project will make an impact not only on the path of your organization, but also on your own professional career in the area of business informatics.”
