Metropolia to Launch Game Industry Degree Programme in Egypt
Starting in autumn 2026, students at an Egyptian university of technology will be able to pursue a Finnish university of applied sciences degree in game development. Metropolia will design the curriculum, participate in teaching, and oversee quality at Elsewedy University of Technology. The partnership agreement was signed for up to ten years.

Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Egypt's Elsewedy University of Technology began a collaboration in April 2026, enabling Egyptian students to earn a Finnish university-level degree in game development.
Metropolia will develop the curriculum, which will be delivered in English at Elsewedy University of Technology. The curriculum will be based on the Finnish applied sciences education model, combining academic knowledge with strong industry links.
Graduates will obtain a bachelor-level degree, titled Bachelor of Engineering. According to Metropolia’s Senior Lecturer, Antti Laiho, Metropolia is responsible not only for the curriculum but will also participate in teaching and monitor quality, for example through a quality handbook.
“We will deliver some courses ourselves by sending lecturers on site to Egypt. In addition, Metropolia will be involved in supervising the final thesis process, to ensure the competence level of graduating students,” Laiho explains.
Metropolia Trains Multidisciplinary and Practice-Oriented Game Industry Professionals
Metropolia is a major educator in the game industry, training professionals in various fields. Students of programming, 3D production, XR Design, and cultural management at Metropolia are all potential candidates for careers in game development.
Laiho notes that Metropolia’s practical, hands-on approach to game industry education has attracted international interest.
“Our multidisciplinary approach is our strength: in one game project you might find programmers, artists, musicians, business students and even cultural producers working together. Furthermore, we offer a high amount of in-person teaching, even by Finnish standards. Game development naturally creates connections between students and staff across different fields,” he says.
Metropolia’s Deputy CEO, Simo Mustila, emphasizes that international educational co-operation is a strategic and growing focus for Metropolia. According to him, education is a means to foster international collaboration and promote global wellbeing.
“We are delighted with this significant new initiative with Elsewedy University of Technology. A ten-year agreement is exceptionally long-term. The Finnish education system is internationally renowned for its quality. This partnership offers new networking opportunities for both parties and chances to develop international expertise,” Mustila says.
“Our collaboration with Metropolia University of Applied Sciences represents a cornerstone in EDTECH’s vision for human capital development. We are building a technological bridge to transfer advanced Finnish expertise into the heart of Egypt’s industrial landscape, preparing a new generation of engineers capable of competing globally in game development and software engineering. The launch of this program reflects our firm commitment to advancing the polytechnic education model, equipping students with the tools of the digital revolution and preparing them to thrive in the global job market", says Ms. Hanan El Rihany, CEO of Elsewedy EDTECH, expressing her pride in the partnership.
