Ukrainian Delegation Visited Metropolia – Cooperation Strengthens
Metropolia is strengthening cooperation with Ukraine in the fields of education and RDI activities. The visit was built on the partnership between Metropolia, Aalto University, and the City of Espoo.
Metropolia hosted a delegation from Kryvyi Rih City and the State University of Economics and Technology (SUET), Ukraine, as part of their visit to Finland on 10–17 December. The programme was offered on the campuses of Myllypuro and Myyrmäki.
The visit builds on long-term cooperation between Metropolia, Aalto University and the City of Espoo, and strengthens collaboration with our Ukrainian partners at both institutional and city levels. Cooperation with SUET focuses on mobility and joint project development, supported in part through Erasmus+ funding.
The programme highlighted Metropolia’s ecosystem-based way of working, applied research and innovation, and the integration of education, RDI activities and working-life collaboration. At the Myllypuro campus, the visitors explored, for instance, Smart Lab facilities, and took part in joint discussions and visioning workshops with Metropolia leadership, experts and students.
At the Myyrmäki campus, visitors were introduced to the mechanical and electrical laboratories, the robotics and artificial intelligence workshop facilities of Robo and the AIoT Garage, the Urban Farm Lab, and the Metropolia Motorsport formula team’s workshop. The formula cars had attracted particular interest from the visitors already in advance. After the tours, new project concepts were discussed.
Cooperation initiated through the TITAN project with Kryvyi Rih City and SUET has significantly expanded and strengthened collaboration in this thematic area between Metropolia, cities in the Helsinki metropolitan area and Aalto University. A shared thematic focus has brought together higher education institutions, cities and companies, laying the foundations for a collaboration ecosystem that supports Ukraine’s recovery and urban development, while at the same time strengthening the participating organisations’ own capabilities and partnerships.
“Our Ukrainian partners’ visit is a concrete step in strengthening cooperation both nationally and internationally. It strengthens our international collaboration and impact-driven RDI. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and jointly shaping concrete next steps for education, innovation and sustainable recovery”, Metropolia’s President and CEO Riitta Konkola says.
