Rehabilitation for Children with Rare Diseases - Research Project

Improving Group Rehabilitation Courses for Families of Children with Rare Diseases

Project examines the implementation and development needs for the group-based rehabilitation courses for families of children with rare diseases.

Project objectives

The aim of the project is to examine the implementation, effectiveness, development needs, and suggestions for further development of the group-based rehabilitation courses for families of children with rare diseases, as well as to identify its core elements.

The study will use a multi-method approach to generate knowledge from the perspectives of children, siblings, parents, and professionals, as well as literature.

The research is conducted in collaboration with Kela’s development project (in Finnish), which is developing a new rehabilitation course for families with a child who has a rare disease, replacing the previous diagnosis-specific courses.

Project duration: 2026–2028.
