Concert:
Call to the south! Dialogue with the Mediterranean

Two top musicians from Italy are arriving as guests of Metropolia’s Degree Programme in Music. The Erasmus exchange programme brings cellist Emanuele Rigamonti and pianist Loredana Paolicelli to teach and perform at Metropolia in early October.

The concert project was born out of a desire to celebrate the colors, scents, and atmospheres of the Mediterranean through the music of the peoples surrounding the seas of Europe and Eurasia. In the concert, works based on folk songs by 20th-century composers—such as Maurice Ravel, Béla Bartók, and Manuel de Falla—engage in a dialogue with pieces by contemporary composers like Arvo Pärt and Fazıl Say. The program is complemented by a selection of stage and film music breathing a Mediterranean spirit. Mirko Macina’s live electronics add a unique flavor to the acoustic duo’s performance.
