Metropolia prepares for corona virus effects

13.3.2020 - 15:38

Corona virus (COVID-19) affects all of us, both in Finland and globally. Metropolia is aligning its operations to mitigate the effects of the corona virus and to ensure continuity of activities.

Metropolia’s board of security management follows the virus situation closely, keeps in touch with authorities, follows their recommendations and outlines the guidelines for Metropolia. All members of Metropolia community are expected to follow the guidelines, based on latest knowledge on the corona pandemia.

Travelling

Traveling abroad for work or study purposes is for the time being prohibited. Students' planned internships and exchange periods abroad will be cancelled for the time being. Domestic travels should also be avoided.

Staff returning from abroad agree on 14 days remote work with their supervisor. Students returning from abroad agree on 14 days remote studies with their Head of Degree Programme. Students and staff members with any kind of flu or possible corona virus symptoms are recommended to stay at home.

For the time being, we do not accept foreign visitors or delegations from any country. This also applies to new, planned student exchanges to Metropolia. Current exchange students have been contacted.

Remote work and studies

Metropolia recommends remote work and studies, whenever possible. Virtual meetings and connections are recommended.

Contact teaching is altered partially or entirely to virtual teaching when possible. Opportunities for virtual examination are being explored.

Our aim is to ensure students’ sufficient study progress in order to secure student financial aid and graduation on time. The degree programme will communicate all relevant changes related to studies.

Events

As recommended by Finnish Government all events with more than 500 participants shall be cancelled until the end of May. Metropolia follows these recommendations and has postponed such events e.g. the Opening Ceremony of Myllypuro Campus 24.3. and National UAS Days 6.-7.5.

Entrance examinations

Arrangements for the spring entrance examinations will be made in cooperation with Arene (The Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences Arene), other universities of applied sciences and educational authorities.

For the time being the arrangements are proceeding normally based on current knowledge.
