Content
Students will explore the engineering design process through theory, examples, and practice on a small scale. This will include concepts such as defining design objectives, concept generation, decision matrices, prototyping methods, and testing. Students will gain experience thinking creatively within technical constraints and working in interdisciplinary teams.
Learning objectives
By the end of the course, students will demonstrate an ability to:
a) Apply the engineering design cycle to produce objects/systems/software that meet specified needs
b) Define measurable design objectives
c) Generate novel design concepts
d) Create informative prototypes
e) Create tests that measure design objectives
f) Effectively present on final design and justify choices
