Scholarships for non-EU/EEA students
Metropolia provides scholarships for students who are required to pay the tuition fee.
Students enrolled to Metropolia UAS that are nationals of non-EU and non-EEA countries and studying in English-taught Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, are due to be pay the annual tuition fee to be decided yearly by the Metropolia UAS. They are required to pay the tuition fee for the academic term in one instalment by the deadline announced by Metropolia UAS. Metropolia provides scholarships only for students who are required to pay the tuition fee.
We have different scholarships for Bachelor's and Master's degree students and also for students who have started their studies earlier.
Those Bachelor’s degree students who begin their studies on or after 1.8.2024 may apply for a Metropolia scholarship based on completing Metropolia’s Finnish language courses (Finnish 1, Finnish 2, Finnish 3 and Finnish 4) and completing a national Finnish language level test as described below.

Each student may be granted a scholarship at maximum three times during their Bachelor’s degree studies at Metropolia. The scholarship will be granted only once per academic year.
To be entitled for Metropolia scholarship the YKI-test must be taken and completed while enrolled as present student at Metropolia.
Those Master’s degree students who begin their studies on or after 1.8.2024 may apply for a Metropolia scholarship based on their national Finnish language level test National Certificates of Language Proficiency, YKI.
The YKI system consists of basic, intermediate and advanced levels.
Note that a Master’s degree student may apply and be granted the scholarship only once during their master’s degree studies at Metropolia.
To be entitled for Metropolia scholarship the YKI-test must be taken and completed while enrolled as present student at Metropolia.
The students who began their studies before 1.8.2024 may apply for a Metropolia scholarship based on their national Finnish language level test National Certificates of Language Proficiency, YKI.
The YKI system consists of basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Each level entitles you to a scholarship of 3000 euros.
This means that a student can receive the scholarship at maximum of three times during their studies. The scholarship will be granted only once per academic year.
For students who have started their studies on or after 1 January 2019, the scholarship is 3000 euros.
To be entitled for Metropolia scholarship the YKI-test must be taken and completed while enrolled as present student at Metropolia.
The grant scheme applies to both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.
For students in Master’s Degree Programme, it is possible to achieve at least one scholarship. Note that reaching the intermediate level and the second scholarship during two academic years, a lot of independent work and active language usage in everyday life is needed, in addition to Finnish studies.
