Finnish Hotel of Tomorrow FHOT 2.0 is a joint project of Metropolia and Haaga-Helia that develops and innovates the hotel of the future. New and tested service concepts and building technology solutions support the accommodation business and construction sector, as both sectors and their companies have suffered from the weakened economic cycle in recent years.
The project will produce internationally and regionally compiled forecast data and environmental expertise. This is based on existing data and good practices on smart and eco-efficient accommodation solutions and environmentally designed spaces. Business cooperation plays an important role as part of the implementation and development of the project.

The project provides accommodation and construction operators with the laboratory facilities of universities of applied sciences and the expertise accumulated in them. For Haaga-Helia, the Lab8 laboratory of service experiences and SmartLab, the development and testing platform for housing-related technologies at Metropolia, will be utilised. These can be used to combine service and property technology experiments with the project's case companies.
As a result, the FHOT 2.0 joint project will generate expertise and knowledge that crosses the boundaries of sectors and fields of education. With regard to individual solutions, new technologies are currently being introduced in the accommodation and construction sector as needed, but actual proactive piloting of development ideas has not been systematically implemented in either sector. The project is part of the strategic 3AMK cooperation between the three largest universities of applied sciences in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
Haaga-Helia is the responsible leader of the project and is responsible for research and service innovations. Metropolia has an active approach to the research and development activities carried out in the project, especially in the utilisation of the expertise of smart buildings and visualisation expertise based on XR technology. It is essential to support companies in the construction, tourism and restaurant sector and their business through various experiments.
The aim is to provide extensive information and report on the project activities, events and results during the implementation so that as many operators in the accommodation and construction sector as possible can benefit from the experiments and solutions developed. The main focus of the experiments is on their replicability and usability.
