GEMINI - Greening European Mobility through Cascading Innovation Initiatives - is an international project aimed at developing sustainable mobility across Europe, with 43 partners and 8 cities testbeds. It is funded by the European Union and coordinated by the Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI).
GEMINI Suomi, based in Finland, will begin testing mobility solutions in the Helsinki region in 2025. The goal is to enhance travel connections and improve public transportation availability between Helsinki and surrounding areas such as Raasepori and Karkkila.
Through these trials, GEMINI will develop and test sustainable business models for New Mobility Services (NMS). Local communities are engaged in co-creating, developing, and adopting promising mobility solutions, ensuring they are user-friendly, sustainable, and financially viable.
The project runs from June 1, 2023, to November 31, 2026. Finnish partners in this initiative include Forum Virium Helsinki and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Ltd.

Pilots
We are conducting New Mobility Services pilots in three areas of Finland: Raasepori, Karkkila and Helsinki. In Autumn 2025, two pilots have been launched. Read more below!
Starting on 12 August 2025, an on-call minibus will operate on the route Antskog – Fiskars – Pohja – Karjaa.
The service offers a convenient way to travel on weekday mornings, whether for commuting, errands, or connecting to trains.
How it works
- Book your ride by 3 p.m. the day before by phone or email.

- The bus has space for 2–3 bicycles – making it easy to combine cycling with public transport.

A free e-bike trial has started in Karkkila as part of the EU-funded GEMINI project. Local residents have the opportunity to borrow an e-bike for one week, free of charge, and see how it fits into their daily lives.
The goal of the trial is to explore how willing people are to replace some of their car trips with an e-bike, and how this could influence local travel habits.

Tämä on tilaisuutesi varmistaa, että Karkkila on etulinjassa kokeilemassa uusia palveluja jotka vastaavat täällä asuvien ja liikkuvien tarpeita.
Pienille ideanikkareille löytyy työpajassa teemanmukainen oma piirustuspiste. Työpajassa tarjotaan myös kevyttä iltapalaa.
