Metadata to Metaverse

From Metadata to Metaverse (MD2MV) research project investigates the naming conventions, ontology definitions, and visualization of different levels of data sources and models of the built environment using new technologies, as well as the utilization of open platforms for examining these.

During the project, and in cooperation with companies, the types of standardization solutions that should be defined for data sources will be investigated, in order to facilitate further processing of data and ensure compatibility across different platforms.

The project will also look into the specification of interfaces for city platforms, through which different organizations can safely define the publicity of the information they share. Additionally, it will be explored how data from different levels of models can be visualized so that various parties can utilize it for their own purposes, for example in creating forecasts or monitoring user needs. With the project’s results, companies will gain precise information about new opportunities in utilizing a shared environment and can use this as a basis for developing their own commercial products, for example through a joint Co-Innovation project.

The project is a Co-Research project funded by Business Finland. The total budget is 1.57 million euros, and the project will run from 1 May 2025 to 31 December 2027.
