Human body embedded physiological monitoring system project will develop a long-term monitoring system of various physiological signals that can be used for monitoring personal health, diagnosed illnesses and the effectiveness of treatment. The 2-year Tekes-funded project started in August 2012.
Increasing public health expenditure is a global trend in OECD countries. To reverse this development, personal well-being, preventive health care, and shift from expensive institutional care to home care are promoted.
In all these areas, there is an underlying need for long-term monitoring of various physiological signals. New biomedical sensor technology suitable for long-term use is needed: small, reliable, flexible, comfortable, personalized, and easy to use.
The project addresses critical areas for new biomedical sensor technology: circuit development, miniaturization and system integration, new biosensors, connectivity to networks, mobile technology, and personalized user experience. Future sensors are used in clinical medicine and physiological monitoring of personal health, diagnosed illnesses, and effectiveness of treatment.
