Basic information

Do you wish to learn to play an instrument?

Metropolia University of Applied Sciences provides an opportunity to study music as a pedagogue student under the instruction of an undergraduate student.

Music Degree Programme students graduate as Music Educators (Bachelor of Culture and Arts). The students have a teacher training period during their studies and they give lessons in various musical instruments and in singing. The training is supervised by the degree programme lecturers.

Application period

The application period is twice a year: you can apply for autumn semester and/ or for spring semester. You can find the application form on the Finnish page during the application periods.

The duration of one lesson is 45 minutes, and there are 13 teaching sessions per semester. The accepted applicants will receive more detailed information about the schedules and the lessons in the beginning of each semester.

How much does the instruction cost?

The tuition fees per semester are the following:

  • individual instruction lessons 220 €
  • small group lessons 160 €
  • theory group, band, music writing, choir 145 €

Entrance qualifications

Pedagogy students can either be beginners or advanced students, and there are no age limits for applicants. The suitability for musical education will be considered.

Student selections are mainly made based on the information given on the application, and in some cases based on an audition (e.g. in classical singing). Students are accepted for one semester at a time.

All student who have filled in the application will receive more information about the selections after each application period.
