Learning objectives
The student knows about the use of artificial intelligence systems in medicine, and understands the key concepts related to artificial intelligence systems and legislation. The student understands the essential requirements of artificial intelligence regulation, and can apply their knowledge and skills in practice.
Teaching methods
The course is delivered in a hybrid format with eight contact sessions of three hours each. Remote participation is possible throughout the course. Sessions include lectures, group discussions, and student presentations. During the first weeks, the key topics are introduced through brief lectures and small assignments. Each student independently selects a topic or a company related to AI in healthcare, preferably a Finnish company, and presents it to the group during a contact session, enabling peer learning and broad topic coverage. All course materials are provided through the Moodle learning environment.
Learning material and recommended literature
There is no single textbook required for this course. All learning materials (lecture slides, articles, online resources, and other references) are provided through the course's Moodle workspace. Students are also encouraged to follow current developments in AI in healthcare, such as industry news and regulatory publications.
Evaluation criteria
The course is graded on a scale of 1–5 or fail. Assessment is based on three components: individual assignments, presentation and peer evaluation, and active participation. In the individual assignments, students demonstrate understanding of the key concepts and regulatory requirements covered in the course. The presentation focuses on an AI application or company in the healthcare sector chosen by the student and includes a peer evaluation component. Active attendance and engagement in contact session discussions also contribute to the final grade.
