Why participate Nursing Summer School?
Wide range of skills: Nurses need many critical skills to be able to successfully care for patients. We cover many of these areas, students from every level will benefit from this extra experience.
Hands-on learning: The programme is almost entirely run in our practical Nursing skills classrooms or simulation rooms, we emphasize hands-on learning through practical learning and case studies.
Experienced teachers: Summer school lecturers have been teaching clinical skills in English in Metropolia for several years and are experiences in running an international classroom.
International environment: Summer School brings together participants and from all around the world, creating a diverse and multicultural learning environment. You will have the opportunity to network with fellow participants, learn from their experiences, and make new friends.
The course is free of charge for participating students. Students need to prepare to pay their personal travel, accommodation and meal costs.
Studying in the Summer School programme
The summer school is suitable for Bachelor level Nursing students who have studied at least one year in their home institution. This is a 3 ECTS course.
Students will receive a short pre-assignment to complete before coming to Metropolia. Instructions to this will be sent to students after they have been accepted to the course.
Students in surgical learning environment
In Metropolia, the classes will take place in our Myllypuro campus which has excellent skills labs and simulation learning environments.
During the week, students will practice iv cannulation on fake arms and on each others. If necessary, please check permission from your home university.
If the home university does not have a system of uniforms, students should bring plain t-shirt and plain college pants or similar, without pictures or logos. Any clean set of shoes will work as indoor shoes, e.g. sneakers.
Student selection and evaluation
We are welcome to host 20 students from our partner institutions around the world. Some seats are available for Metropolia's own students. If we receive more than 20 applications, we will select the students so that as many partner universities will be represented as possible. Partners may nominate max 5 students each.
Selected students will receive information about the acceptance by email. Separate Acceptance/Welcome letters are issued only to students who need it to for visa purposes.
After the Summer School the students will receive a Transcript of Records. The evaluation for the summer programme will be Pass/Fail. No numeric grade or separate evaluation will be given.
