Metropolia is committed to promoting the well-being and integration of international talent who arrive in or already live in Finland. As an entire higher education community, and in collaboration with our partners, we work to ensure that Metropolia and Finnish society are open, inclusive, and welcoming to international professionals.

  • We equip our international students with the skills and capabilities needed to actively participate in Finnish society and working life, while strengthening their desire to remain in Finland after graduation.
  • We provide employers and organisations with expert support in addressing challenges related to attracting and retaining talent, and help strengthen employers' readiness to recruit and employ international professionals.
  • We develop new solutions that promote the well-being and employment prospects of international talents in Finland.
  • We support and provide career guidance to immigrants living in Finland who already hold a higher education degree or who are interested in applying to a Finnish higher education institution.
  • We contribute to solving talent shortage challenges in a sustainable and human-centered way.

International Talent into Working Life (Kansainväliset osaajat TyöElämään) is Metropolia's strategic initiative for the Ministry of Education and Culture's agreement period 2025-2028. The intitiative brings together Metropolia's services and activities relate to international talents under one umbrella while also developing new solutions to support integration and employment.

MEininki Partner Daycares

The MEininki initiative is creating a multidisciplinary, sustainable, and linguistically and culturally responsive daycare model. The practices and solutions developed within the model can be adapted and implemented across a wide range of early childhood education and care environments and stakeholder networks. It responds to the evolving and diverse needs of children, families, and professional.

Functionally Bilingual Higher Education

Functionally Bilingual Higher Education (TOKAKO). This education model combines degree studies with Finnish language learning throughout the degree studies. The language immersion model supports the recognition of prior competencies, fosters collaboration between students and employers, and enhances the labour market relevance of education. It has been piloted scalable across all fields of education.

Finnish as a second language (S2)

Metropolia supports the teaching and learning of Finnish as a second language (S2) through a variery of initiatives. Opportunities include study moduls and language clinics, also open to non-degree students through Metropolia's Open University of Applied Sciences. In addition, language learning is integrated into various educational solutions.

HyMy Village

HyMy Village is a people-oriented and multidiciplinary learning and development environment where students practice future skills through authentic client work with real clients and patients. In HyMy Village, international students have the opportunity to become familiar with Finnish social and healthcare sector practices and to develop their Finnish language skills.

Career Boost is a working life oriented training concept that combines Finnish language support, subject-specific studies, and career coaching. Designed for international professions, it helps participants to secure employment within their field in Finland.

Metropolia Welcome Hub is a guidance service for international students. We offer support and answers to common questions about studying at Metropolia and living in Finland. We also provide guidance and organise information sessions and events to help students succeed in their studies and build a good life in Finland.

Metropolia's career services support international students in planning their career and navigating the job market in Finland. The services include workshops, CV clinics, and opportunities for individual career guidance. Trainee Programmes

Our trainee programmes help international students and professionals build successful careers in Finland while supporting Finnish workplaces in becoming more diverse and inclusive. Guided by experiences professionals, participants strenthen their expertise, Finnish language skills, and knowledge of Finnish work culture and labour market practices. We also provide support for managers and teams to help them welcome and integrate international talents into their workplace communities.

JobTeaser is a career platform that connects students, recent graduates, and employers. Through the platform, users can discover job opportunities, internships, and career-related events. It helps employers connect with the right talent and supports students in finding their career paths. The platform is used by both Metropolia degree students and alumni.

SIMHE services for immigrants

Metropolia's SIMHE (Supporting Immigrants in Higher Education) services support highly educated immigrants living in Finland in exploring career and educational opportunities and developing their skills and competences. The services include individual and group counselling, career webinars, and guidance on different study options. Through these services, professionals can find the right path toward employment and continued education in Finland.
