Elina Pylkkänen, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Employment and the Economy, and Sara Keronen, PhD researcher, University of Jyväskylä

Keynote dialogue on Wednesday, June 4th, from 10:00 to 10:45 in the Metropolia Hall.
Topic of the dialogue: Continuous Learning in Working Life.

Sara Keronen

Sara Keronen, M.Ed., Doctoral Researcher, focuses her research on workplace learning, psychological basic needs, human resource practices, and leadership. She is currently finalizing her doctoral dissertation, which examines the phenomenon of collective self-direction in the context of workplace learning. Keronen has participated in several research and development projects aimed at addressing the challenges of adult learning and organizational development in working life. Her research centers on exploring how the meaningfulness and motivation of work and learning can be strengthened in work communities, and how workplace learning can be supported through everyday practices.


Satu Uusiautti, Professor of Education and Educational Psychology, University of Lapland

Keynote speech on Wednesday, June 4th, from 15:40 to 16:30 in the Metropolia Hall.
Topic of the speech: Premises of Success and Flourishing in Higher Education.

Satu Uusiautti, PhD, is a professor of the University of Lapland and also its former vice-rector responsible for education. Uusiautti’s research has focused on positive leadership, success at work and in studies, as well as strengths-based, flourishing study and work environments and organizations. Uusiautti also serves as the associate editor of the International Journal of Applied Positive Psychology by Springer Nature.


Katri Halonen, Principal Lecturer, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

Keynote speech on Thursday, June 5th, from 9:20 to 10:00 in the Metropolia Hall.
Topic of the speech: Morning Prelude of Creativity – How Do We Bring Innovations to Life in Everyday Higher Education?

Katri Halonen – A Pioneer at the Intersection of the Creative Industries and Technology

Katri Halonen, PhD, LicPhil, is a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Management at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, where she leads the Master’s Degree Programme focusing on participatory leadership in the creative industries. Halonen is a renewal-oriented expert at the intersection of the creative field and emerging technologies. Her expertise spans cultural production, participatory leadership, web3 technologies, and agile development.


Hertta Vuorenmaa, Researcher and Lecturer on Changing Work

Keynote speech on Thursday, June 5th, from 14:45 to 15:30 in the Metropolia Hall.
Topic of the speech: Future Skills – What, Why, and How?

Hertta Vuorenmaa

Hertta Vuorenmaa is a Tenured Associate Professor of Management at Hanken School of Economics and the Director of the Future of Work research program. She also serves as Chair of the Finnish Association of Work Life Research. Vuorenmaa has extensive teaching experience across bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as in MBA and EMBA programs. She has taught at Hanken, Aalto University, and the University of Helsinki, among others, and has also lectured internationally in countries such as Poland, South Korea, Spain, and Singapore. Her research focuses on the transformation of work, skills development, resilience, employee well-being, and sustainable leadership in a changing work environment.

Themes

Developing higher education pedagogy supports various societal developments and creates solutions for current and future needs. Universities must address evolving labour market demands and the diverse needs of learners. Universities must adapt to changes by adopting new learning solutions and opportunities. At the same time, they play a significant role in producing the skills and knowledge needed to advance sustainability transitions and green growth. Responding to these changes requires innovative and evolving higher education pedagogy that fosters new approaches, practices, and research to address current challenges.
