A new era begins in Metropolia’s international educational cooperation

Internationality and close cooperation with businesses have always been part of Metropolia’s strategic choices. Our values are built around the themes of solution orientation, building a sustainable future responsibly, renewing competencies, and having a human-centric approach.

The world’s situation is constantly changing and, to some extent, unstable. Education is a means of fostering cooperation, enlightenment, and thereby stability in the world. Metropolia aims to build bridges between different cultures and, at the same time, foster new global citizens.

This autumn, Metropolia is launching educational cooperation with the Chinese Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University. The collaboration involves a dual degree program – the Shanghai Zhongqiao Helsinki School of Future Engineering – which represents the highest and most demanding category of educational cooperation in the Chinese higher education sector.

Through this partnership, we aim to reach nearly 1,000 students. Chinese students can apply for the degrees via the annual national university entrance examinations, with the academic year commencing each autumn. Within four years, students will earn a dual degree and learn English under the guidance of international instructors. This will help them apply for master's programs around the world and increase their competitiveness in the job market.

"This is a significant new partnership for Metropolia in educational export. We are also committed to long-term cooperation as the agreement lasts for eight years, says Riitta Konkola", CEO-President of Metropolia.

The cooperation agreement was signed in August, and collaboration will begin with two degree programs: Food Quality and Safety, and Construction Engineering (Smart Construction).

"This cooperation is an important step in the internationalization strategy of our area of expertise. It offers an excellent opportunity to share our pedagogical know-how with our partner university and to strengthen and expand our expertise in bio- and food engineering in an international context,” says Jarmo Palm, Head of Degree Program in Food Quality and Safety.
