Building a Meaningful Career in MedTech
Diponkor Mondal graduated in spring 2025 as a Master of Engineering in Medical Technology. He tells about his studies:
"Before starting the Master’s in IT program at Metropolia, I held a bachelor’s in physics and a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering. Despite my educational background, I struggled to find proper career opportunities in Finland.
This program gave me valuable knowledge, practical skills, and strong mentorship. During my studies, Principal Lecturer Mikael Soini shared a job opening and personally recommended me, which became a turning point in my career. I am genuinely grateful for that.
Today, I work at the Hematoscope Lab, which is affiliated with the Helsinki University Hospital and HUSLAB. I am responsible for regulatory and quality management of an innovative IVD medical device software that supports the diagnosis of blood diseases. As a part of my job, I am also participating in the EU-funded EU4MEDTECH project, which advances the evaluation and regulation of high-risk medical devices and IVDs across Europe.
Courses in medical device regulations, quality management, and usability engineering gave me the expertise I needed to succeed in the MedTech field. The knowledge I gained has directly shaped my role and continues to guide my work.
Balancing studies with life was sometimes challenging, but the program’s flexibility and supportive teachers made it possible. This degree has equipped me with both technical and regulatory expertise, opening doors to international collaboration and meaningful career opportunities. For me, this degree provided exactly what I hoped to gain, even more!"
