Cloud and Server Systems study module will give you basic skills needed to work in cloud computing. Study module includes six courses. The extent of the courses is 5 ECTS credits (30 ECTS in total).
Learning objectives
After completing the course student know different virtualization technologies and applications. The student can design, implement and test simple open source based virtual server system and choose the suitable virtualization technologies for the services.

Amazon Cloud Foundation is an AWS Academy curriculum designed to help students develop technical expertise in cloud computing. Upon a successful completion of the course, participants will know the basics of cloud computing, can identify global infrastructure components of cloud computing and knows the basics of implementation and architecture of public cloud computing.

On the completion of the course, student understands enterprise virtualization environments and knows how to configure and manage such an environment. Student knows common virtualization concepts like virtual machines, virtual hardware, virtual networks and clusters.

AWS – Cloud Computing Architecture is an AWS Academy curriculum designed to help students develop technical expertise in cloud computing and prepare them for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification exam.
Upon a successful completion of the course, participants will know the value, benefits of cloud computing, the financial advantages on AWS, the core components and services of cloud computing on AWS, scaling infrastructure on AWS, Cloud migration as well as high availability and business continuity. After completing this course the learner knows design patterns of AWS cloud and can apply them to architectural designs solutions.

Amazon Cloud Foundation or basic knowledge about cloud computing
Learning objectives
After completing this course, student will be able to prepare and install different Windows Server configurations. Student will also learn how to install and configure Microsoft Hyper-V, and configure virtual machines including an introduction about Windows and Hyper-V contrainers. After the course, students will also know different high availability and disaster recovery technologies in Windows Server environment.

Learning objectives
On completion of the course student knows how to manage Azure subscriptions, create and scale virtual machines, implement storage solutions, configure virtual networking, back up and share data, connect Azure and on-premises sites, manage network traffic, implement Azure Active Directory, secure identities, and monitor different solutions.

Basic understanding of computing, operating systems, and computer networks.
Studies are based on AWS Academy, VMware IT Academy and Microsoft Imagine Academy course offerings.
Study module will be arranged during the academic year 2025 - 2026. All courses are held in English.
Study module will begin from 25 August 2025 onwards. Lessons are held during weekdays at evening time 17:00 - 20:45.
Teaching weeks of the courses during autumn term 2025:

No lessons during holiday weeks 42 and 8 and during Christmas break (weeks 51-2).
Most of the courses are arranged as distance learning mode using Teams or Zoom. However, some parts of the studies can also be arranged on Metropolia’s Karamalmi campus (Karaportti 2, Espoo).
Evening lessons of the autumn term courses will be published in early June. Evening lessons of the spring term courses will be published in autumn.
Price of the study module is 175 €. Price for an individual course is 125 € per course.
