Open University: Path studies

Did you miss a place to study, or do you want to try bachelor's studies without losing your first-time quota in a joint application? Do you want to continue master’s studies immediately after your bachelor's degree?

Start studying as a path student at the Open University of Applied Sciences!

What are path studies?

Path studies are an alternative route to a degree student. You study first year studies with a degree group at the Open UAS. In some degrees, it is also possible that path students have their own group.

With the studies completed in the open UAS path, you can apply for a Metropolia degree student in the separate application “Application on the Basis of Metropolia’s Open UAS Studies”. If you have been admitted a study right as a degree student, your path studies will be accepted as part of your degree studies and you will continue your studies smoothly with the group. Please note, however, that completing path studies does not automatically guarantee admission as a degree student in a separate application.

The scope, content and implementation of the pathway studies varies depending on the degree programme. In bachelor's degrees, the scope of path studies is generally 30-60 credits and in master’s degrees 15-30 credits.

To whom are path studies suitable?

Path studies are right for you if

  • your goal is a study right in a degree programme
  • you want to take advantage of the intermediate year by studying purposefully
  • you are ready for full-time studies
  • you want to try to study at a University of Applied Sciences or in a certain field without losing your first-time quota in a joint application
  • after a bachelor's degree, you want to continue directly to master’s studies, before fulfilling the work experience requirement

There are no basic training requirements for bachelor's paths. Master’s paths require a suitable bachelor's degree in the field or a corresponding university degree in the field as a basic education requirement. However, it is good to note that you need general study skills and sufficient language skills in your studies.

Student selection and pre-tests in Open UAS paths

Students are selected either in the order of enrolment or through a pre-test. If you stay in reserve on a path, you can still get a place 7 days before the start of the path or study module if someone who gets a place cancels his or her registration.

The Open UAS path studies are primarily intended for persons who have not previously studied in path studies at Metropolia. If necessary, students for path studies can be selected deviating from the order of enrollment on this basis.

Pre-tests in Open UAS paths

Some of the paths include a pre-test, in which those applying for path studies may be given priority in accordance with the selection criteria that have been decided. Most of the pre-tests are held during August, 12 to August, 14, 2024. More detailed information on the test can be found in the additional information of path in the enrollment system. The amount of students selected is stated in the path information. Some applicants from waiting list are also invited to the pre-test.

Invitations to pre-tests will be emailed during August, 7 to August, 9, 2024. Information about the selection or rejection will be sent by e-mail to the participants in the selection procedure no later than August, 16, 2024. All accepted path students will receive an email which includes a link to accept the study place. Please also follow your spam. Please note that if you don't accept the study place in 24 hours, it will be offered forward and you will lose your study place. Remember to follow your email carefully during the process.

If you are on the waiting list you can receive a study place to the path if person who has passed the test does not accept a study place or cancels it after accepting.
