Who are you and what are you studying?Hello everyone, my name is Jasper Hernandez. I am originally from the Philippines, but I've lived in Singapore for almost 11 years. I am a professional building architect, and I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Industrial Management. I moved to Finland in August 2023, although I had visited Finland three times before.
I applied to several universities in Finland, and I was accepted to all of them. However, I ultimately chose Metropolia because it is the largest UAS in the country and, in my opinion, one of the best (wink). Metropolia is conveniently located in the heart of the capital, making it an ideal place to live and work.
I have been working in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries for many years. I decided to pursue a Master's degree because I want to enhance my skills and further my career. While I already work in an industry I love, I want to specialize in sustainability and the circular economy, which are essential for creating innovative and efficient solutions in the built environment and related industries.
I believe Finland is the perfect place for this, and Metropolia is the ideal institution for my goals. I'm thoroughly enjoying my studies, even though they are quite challenging. The knowledge I'm gaining in areas such as business processes, development, strategies, supply chain management, and enterprise resource planning is invaluable. Additionally, our department boasts a team of highly experienced teachers, colleagues, and students who collectively joke that our combined experience adds up to 300 years! :D
One aspect I appreciate about the campus is the availability of pantry, break, and study rooms. These were amenities I didn't have access to during my previous university experience. I'm impressed by Finland's holistic approach to student well-being.
One of my favorite places in Helsinki is Suomenlinna because of the beautiful parks and architecture that can be found everywhere. Another place that I love is Oodi. I fell in love with the architecture and design the moment I saw it!
As for my hobbies, I enjoy learning, exploring new places, jumping rope, watercolor painting, creating mail art, and sending snail mail. I also like spending time by the lakeside, fishing, berry picking, building campfires, enjoying saunas, taking icy dips in the lakes, and hopefully learning to ski!
