The description of the education
The goal is to develop Finnish language skills and get to know higher education.
During the education you will develop:
- your Finnish language skills
- your interaction and communication skills
- your academic skills such as study and digital skills
- your mathematical skills
- your English language skills
The preparatory program is targeted to persons with an immigrant background who aim at applying to higher education studies at universities or universities of applied sciences in Finland. The goal is to improve Finnish language skills from level B1 to level B2.
Accomplishment of preparatory education doesn’t give direct access to a degree student. You must apply to a degree student through the normal application process for example via joint application. Studies completed in preparatory education can be included in a Bachelor's Degree.
The content of the education
The extent of the studies is 30 ECTS credits. The studies consist of six different courses:
- Introduction to Preparatory Program and Higher Education Studies , 5 cr
- Higher Education Studies and Finnish as a Second Language 1 (B1), 5 cr
- Higher Education Studies and Finnish as a Second Language 2 (B1), 5 cr
- Higher Education Studies and Finnish as a Second Language 3 (B2), 5 cr
- Introduction to Mathematics, 5 cr
- English for Higher Education Studies, 5 cr

The studies consist of joint online meetings with the teacher, students and small groups. Besides, the studies consist of independent study. Moodle learning environment and different online tools such as Zoom and Teams are used during the studies.
The studies are full-time studies (30 credits) which takes time. It’s mandatory to take part in online teaching. Online teaching and online learning are held from Monday to Friday between 9 am to 4 pm.

The duration of education 4.9.2023-28.2.2024 as online studies.
Applying for the education
Application period for education: 24.4.2023 at 8.00 - 5.5.2023 at 15.00. Studies start in autumn 2023.
An entrance exam is held 12.-13.6.2023 at Myllypuro Campus, Myllypurontie 1, Helsinki.
