The ageing of the population is particularly evident in the demographic structures of Western countries. It brings significant societal challenges. For example, ageing increases susceptibility to many common diseases. A decline in functional capacity may mean a need for assistance with mobility, daily activities, and maintaining social connections.

At the same time, promoting the health and well-being of the entire population is a key future challenge that requires new solutions for disease prevention and maintaining functional capacity.

The aim of our Research and Development Programme Future Health and Ageing is to combine multidisciplinary research and practical development work in areas such as age technology, nutrition, and diagnostics, and to quickly bring the findings into everyday life to support people’s independent, active, and healthy living.
